Methods of reducing sinuous flow during machining and products formed thereby
Methods of machining a body to produce a chip wherein the body is formed of a material and in a state such that the material exhibits sinuous flow during a machining operation. The methods include providing a layer located on a surface of the body, and machining the body by causing engagement between a cutting tool and the body in a contact region below an area of the surface having the coating layer thereon and moving the cutting tool relative to the body to produce the chip having the layer thereon. The layer reduces sinuous flow in the material of the body.
Methods of protecting furnace electrodes with cooling liquid that contains an additive
A method for forming a protective antioxidative barrier on the furnace electrodes using a chemically altered cooling liquid containing an antioxidant additive. This method can be applied to electrodes used in electric arc furnaces and ladle metallurgy furnaces. The method can involve spraying the cooling liquid onto the electrode, thereby forming the protective antioxidative barrier and reducing the oxidation of the electrode.
Sanitation systems and components thereof having a slippery surface
The present disclosure describes a strategy to create self-healing, slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces. Roughened (e.g., porous) surfaces can be utilized to lock in place a lubricating fluid, referred to herein as Liquid B to repel a wide range of materials, referred to herein as Object A (Solid A or Liquid A). Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces outperforms other conventional surfaces in its capability to repel various simple and complex liquids (water, hydrocarbons, crude oil and blood), maintain low-contact-angle hysteresis (<2.5°), quickly restore liquid-repellency after physical damage (within 0.1-1 s), resist ice, microorganisms and insects adhesion, and function at high pressures (up to at least 690 atm). Some exemplary application where slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces will be useful include energy-efficient fluid handling and transportation, optical sensing, medicine, and as self-cleaning, and anti-fouling materials operating in extreme environments.
Digital binder and powder print
A method and equipment to form a digital print by applying dry colourants on a surface of a panel, bonding a part of the colourants with a binder and removing the non-bonded colourants from the surface. The method of forming a digital print on a surface of a panel includes displacing the panel under a digital drop application head, applying a liquid binder with the digital drop application head on the surface; applying colourants on the liquid binder and the surface; bonding a part of the colourants to the surface with the liquid binder; removing non-bonded colourants from the surface such that a digital print is formed by the bonded colourants; and applying heat and pressure on the panel, the surface and the bonded colorants such that the colourants are permanently bonded to the surface.
ORTHOPEDIC IMPLANT HAVING A CRYSTALLINE CALCIUM PHOSPHATE COATING AND METHODS FOR MAKING THE SAME
An orthopedic implant having a metal surface and a calcium phosphate layer disposed on at least part of the metal surface is described. The calcium phosphate layer has an average crystallite size of less than about 100 nm in at least one direction and dissolves for more than 2 hours in vitro. The calcium phosphate layer is substantially free of carbonate. The coating, which is formed on a sodium titanate surface, has increased shear strength and tensile strength. The coating is formed by a solution deposited hydroxyapatite process under inert conditions. The pH of the solution varies by less than 0.1 pH unit/hour during coating formation.
Systems and Methods for Treating a Metal Substrate
Disclosed is a method for treating an anodized metal substrate, including contacting at least a portion of the substrate surface with a sealing composition having a pH of 9.5 to 12.5 and comprising a lithium metal cation. Also disclosed is a system that includes a sealing composition having a pH of 9.5 to 12.5 and comprising a lithium metal cation and an aqueous composition for contacting a surface of the metal substrate following contacting with the sealing composition. Also disclosed are substrates treated with the system and method.
Color register edging method for aluminum alloy hub
The present application provides a color register edging method for an aluminum alloy hub. The method is characterized by comprising the following steps: (I) a first pretreatment and drying step, including washing, degreasing, acid pickling and passivation; (II) a body powder and paint spraying and respective curing step; (III) a second pretreatment and drying step, including washing, degreasing, acid pickling and passivation; (IV) an edging color register spraying and curing step, wherein a color register paint is squeezed onto a surface that needs color register by using an injection needle; (V) a third pretreatment and drying step, including washing, degreasing, acid pickling and passivation; and (VI) a high-gloss transparent powder spraying and curing step. The method breaks the conventional shielded protective color register process, the designed grooves can be in a full circle or partial, meanwhile, the size of the grooves can also be changed in the width.
Storage and delivery systems for colloidal dispersions
The present disclosure provides methods for stabilizing a colloidal dispersion during transport for low defect tolerance applications. The methods involve eliminating fluid interfaces within a dispersion, storing the dispersion in an environment of inert gas, and degassing the dispersion. Several bottle closure devices are described which may be ideal for use with these methods, being able to seal a container filled with a dispersion, permit the removal of headspace and rapidly empty the contained dispersion. In one aspect, the device includes a vented cap and semi-permeable membrane, which allows the passage of gas into and out of the container, and a dispenser nozzle integrated with the device to allow a stored dispersion to be dispensed without removing the device from the container. In another aspect, the bottle closure device includes an attachment point for a removable downtube and dispenser nozzle.
TWO-COAT SINGLE CURE POWDER COATING
Methods and systems for coating metal substrates are provided. The methods and systems include sequential application of low flow and high flow powder coatings followed by a single heating step to provide a cured coating. The methods and systems include a marker that allows coating uniformity to be monitored and assessed during application. The described methods provide coatings with optimal surface smoothness and edge coverage.
