Method of Forming and Controlling Morphology of Cracks in Silicon Dioxide Film
20230057014 · 2023-02-23 · ·

Methods for forming and controlling morphology cracks in silicon dioxide (SiO.sub.2) film comprising: preparing SiO.sub.2precursor solution comprising solvent, precursor of SiO.sub.2, precursor of metal oxide nanocrystals, water, and acid; coating the solution onto substrate; drying the solution atop the substrate at a temperature between about 20° C. to 100° C. between 1 minute to 24 hours to form SiO.sub.2 film having uniformly dispersed metal oxide nanocrystals, wherein shorter drying times yield substantially spherical shaped metal oxide nanocrystals and longer drying times yield rod and disc shaped metal oxide nanocrystals; and thermally treating the SiO.sub.2 film between about 60° C. to 500° C. between 1 minute to 24 hours to form cracked mesh SiO.sub.2 film, wherein two cracks initiate from rod shaped metal oxide nanocrystals, three to four cracks initiate from spherical shaped metal oxide nanocrystals, and four or more cracks initiate from disc shaped metal oxide nanocrystals. Other embodiments are described and claimed.

Coating providing modulated release of volatile compositions

Described are modulating coatings that are configured to provide an improved release profile of a volatile composition from a base material, wherein the modulating coating includes a barrier substance that is configured to hinder a release of the volatile composition through the modulating coating, and a hygroscopic substance that is configured to facilitate the release of the volatile composition through the modulating coating.

Methods are provided for a post-treatment process for use with coatings deposited via thermal spray and/or cold spray to modify the microstructures of the coatings and improve associated cohesion and adhesion properties. Such process includes performing ultrasonic consolidation of the spray coating as a post-treatment step after deposition of the spray coating onto a substrate. A system for spray deposition and ultrasonic consolidation is also provided.

ENVIRONMENTAL BARRIER COATING WITH POROUS BOND COAT LAYER

A gas turbine engine article includes a silicon-containing ceramic substrate and an environmental barrier coating (EBC) system disposed on the substrate. The EBC system includes, from the substrate, a dense bond coat layer, a porous bond coat layer, and a topcoat layer in contact with the porous bond coat layer. The dense bond coat layer and the porous bond coat layer each include a silica matrix and oxygen-scavenging gas-evolution particles dispersed through the silica matrix. The porous bond coat layer includes engineered pores.

System and method for manufacture of abrasive coating

A component for a gas turbine engine includes an airfoil section including a free end and an abrasive coating sprayed onto the free end, the abrasive coating including a polymer matrix and an abrasive filler, the abrasive filler between about 50%-75% by volume of the abrasive coating.

Prevention of biofilm formation

Antibacterial coatings and methods of making the antibacterial coatings are described herein. A first branched polyethylenimine (BPEI) layer is formed and a first glyoxal layer is formed on a surface of the BPEI layer. The first BPEI layer and the first glyoxal layer are cured to form a crosslinked BPEI coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with superhydrophobic moieties, superhydrophilic moieties, or negatively charged moieties to increase the antifouling characteristics of the coating. The first BPEI layer can be modified with contact-killing bactericidal moieties to increase the bactericidal characteristics of the coating.

RESIN-COATED METAL SHEET FOR CONTAINERS

A resin-coated metal sheet for containers, on which wrinkle defects are not generated during a post-process heat treatment in can making of two-piece cans that involves a high degree of processing. The resin-coated metal sheet for containers includes a metal sheet and a resin coating layer disposed on each of surfaces of the metal sheet. The resin coating layer on at least one surface contains a resin material that contains 90 mol % or more of an ethylene terephthalate unit and that has a mobile amorphous content of 80% or more.

Polyurethane protective film

A protective film that can be included in multi-layer film laminates for use in marketing, advertising campaigns, particularly outdoor or other environment impacted promotions and safety applications. The film includes at least two different polyurethane polymers and is free or substantially free of polyvinyl chloride based polymer. One polyurethane has an ultimate elongation less than 200%, and another polyurethane has an ultimate elongation more than 400%. The film may be transparent, translucent, clear or have other desirable optical properties.
