SUBMERGED COATING REPAIR OF POTABLE WATER SYSTEMS
Systems and methods for safely repairing potable water tanks when submerged within a tank. Several barriers are used to separate the coating material after application to the area of the tank needing repair from the potable water. The barrier may be shield structure defining a cavity and having an aperture and valve for injecting the coating material into the cavity, or the barrier may be a sheet preloaded with coating material and stored within and delivered via a transfer shield, or the barrier may be a continuous sheet delivered over the top of the coating material at the same time it is applied. The barrier layer, be it a shield structure sheet or continuous sheet, becomes adhered to the substrate being repaired so post cure removal is not required.
ULTRASONIC WELDING TONGS
The invention relates to ultrasonic welding tongs (10) for performing ultrasonic welding on a tubular electrically conductive welding medium (20), wherein a first welding jaw or a second welding jaw and a welding-medium stop device (21), which delimits a welding-medium holding space (19) formed between the welding jaws, are each electrically conductive and arranged electrically isolated from each other, the electrically conductive welding jaw and the electrically conductive welding-medium stop device forming components of a safety circuit in such a manner that a welding process including a closing of the welding jaws is triggered after the safety circuit has been closed by the formation of an electrical contact between the electrically conductive welding jaw and the welding-medium stop device by way of the welding medium.
METHOD AND FACILITY FOR COATING A BODY WITH FORMATION OF A STRUCTURED SURFACE
The present invention relates to a method for coating, optionally with specific colouring, an exposed surface of a body with simultaneous formation of a structured surface, including projecting formations, via a device for depositing one or more liquid substances in droplets, in particular by a jet, said method consisting, for each affected site (1) of the surface to be printed (1), of consecutively depositing at least two vertically adjacent layers (6, 6) of a first substance selected from the group made up of a size, a varnish, an adhesion or attachment agent and a coating agent, preferably white or transparent and at least one second substance such as a colouring substance or a mixture of colouring substances, each of the consecutive layers (6, 6) being formed by depositing droplets (4, 4; 5). The method is characterised in that it consists of consecutively depositing at least three vertically adjacent layers (6, 6) which are made up, alternatively, of a first substance and a second substance, each layer (6, 6) being made up of separate individual droplets (4, 4; 5), arranged in each layer according to a predetermined pattern.
Adaptable Surface Treatment Repair System
A surface treatment repair assembly for applying a surface treatment to a contoured surface includes an attachment device configured to removably attach to the contoured surface and a robotic unit is coupled to the attachment device. Furthermore, a treating unit is operably mounted on the robotic unit and including a plurality of applicator heads forming a treatment array and each applicator head is configured to apply a surface repair treatment. At least one sensor is mounted on the treating unit and configured to identify a target area for the surface repair treatment and a controller is operably coupled to the robotic unit and the treating unit. The controller is programmed to control a movement of the robotic unit to position the treatment array adjacent to the target area and to selectively operate the treatment array to apply the surface repair treatment on the target area of the contoured surface.
Repair process and a repaired component
Matrix composite component repair processes are disclosed. The matrix composite repair process includes applying a repair material to a matrix composite component, securing the repair material to the matrix composite component with an external securing mechanism and curing the repair material to bond the repair material to the matrix composite component during the securing by the external securing mechanism. The matrix composite component is selected from the group consisting of a ceramic matrix composite, a polymer matrix composite, and a metal matrix composite. In another embodiment, the repair process includes applying a partially-cured repair material to a matrix composite component, and curing the repair material to bond the repair material to the matrix composite component, an external securing mechanism securing the repair material throughout a curing period, In another embodiment, the external securing mechanism is consumed or decomposed during the repair process.
Structural health monitoring sensory arrangement integrated within a self-healing system
An integrated system and method to acquire the health state of a structure identifying the presence of damage, and to self-repair the damage in the considered structure. A sensor network installed in the structure is interrogated by a dedicated hardware for damage detection. In case of damage is detected by the sensor network in the structure, the sensor network is triggered and generates harmonic excitation in the structure. Due to the excitation, the natural frequency of vascular microtubes and/or capsules presented in the structure is reached, promoting their disruption. The vascular microtubes and/or capsules disruption along the damage releases the healing compound, repairing the damaged portion of the structure.
Apparatus and Method for Applying Asphalt Binder Compositions Including Void Reducing Asphalt Membrane Compositions for Paving Applications
An apparatus for applying an asphalt binder composition to a roadway during construction or repair of an asphalt pavement which apparatus include: a mobile vehicle having a chassis extending in a longitudinal direction which longitudinal direction is aligned with a forward/rearward direction of travel of said mobile vehicle; at least one storage tank supported on the chassis containing an asphalt binder composition; and at least one spray nozzle configured to dispense the asphalt binder composition from the at least one storage tank in a longitudinal strip or band having a width that is no greater that a width of the asphalt binder composition dispensed by one of the at least one spray nozzle. The at least one spray nozzle can include a plurality of spray nozzles that are coupled to a common spray bar. According to one embodiment the asphalt binder composition is a void reducing asphalt membrane composition that is provided between adjacent asphalt pavement passes.
Material and applicator for pinhole and small defect repair
A method for finishing a repaired surface is described. The method includes wiping a sealer on the repaired surface to seal microporosity in the repaired surface, the sealer consisting essentially of a mixture of polymer, at least one filler, solvent, and optionally microspheres; and applying a top coat to the sealed surface without sanding the sealed surface, the top coat being free of visible pinholes. Sealers and tools for applying surface sealers are also described.
METHOD FOR REPAIRING AN AIRFOIL SURFACE HAVING AN ELASTOMERIC PROTECTIVE COATING
This invention relates to the repair and removal of erosion or impact damage using hand sandable elastomeric coatings on a curved substrate, particularly such surfaces as the leading edge of the airfoil. Specialized applicators and methods of use are also disclosed.
