Durable, water resistant wood and wood composites
The invention provides a novel product and method to coat wood and wood composite products and improves their durability and service life in outdoor conditions. The method comprises coating a Type I waterborne adhesive, crosslinking polyvinyl acetate (XPVAc or x-PVAc), on wood and applying sufficient heat to dry and cure the coating to form a durable bond on wood or wood composites. The above paint system consists of at least two coating layers, in which both layers are crosslinking polyvinyl acetate coating. Alternatively, crosslinking polyvinyl acetate can be used as a primer, while the second or the third layer uses an acrylic, alkyd, or other water resistant coating. This coating approach results in a durable wood or wood composite product due to the excellent bonding with the wood substrate and the excellent water blocking by crosslinking polyvinyl acetate.
Recovery of wood acetylation fluid
Disclosed is the integration of the production of acetic anhydride from ketene, and the acetylation of wood using acetylation fluid comprising acetic acid and acetic anhydride. The invention involves recovering acetylation fluid from wood acetylation, and sending this to an acetic anhydride distillation unit belonging to the acetic anhydride production plant.
Foamed Coating Composition and Method for Coating a Substrate with Such Coating Composition
The invention relates to a method for coating a substrate comprising: a) providing a liquid aqueous coating composition, the composition comprising an acrylic resin as binder, one or more surfactants, a coalescence solvent, and a thickener; b) foaming the liquid aqueous coating composition to obtain a foamed coating composition; c) applying a layer of the foamed coating composition on the substrate; and d) allowing gas to escape from the layer of foamed coating composition and allowing the coating composition to dry to form a homogeneous non-foam dried coating, wherein the liquid aqueous coating composition provided in step a) comprises the acrylic resin in a concentration in the range of from 1 to 20 wt %, comprises the thickener in a concentration in the range of from 0.05 to 2.0 wt %, and has a solids content of at most 25 wt %, based on the total weight of the liquid aqueous coating composition. The invention further relates to foamed aqueous coating composition obtainable by steps a) and b).
WOOD TREATMENT METHOD
Disclosed is a method for treating a grained material. A nonlimiting example of the method includes the operations of providing a workpiece having grains, exasperating a surface of the workpiece to open the grains, applying at least one coat of a base paint to the exasperated surface, applying at least one layer of clear coat on the base paint, applying at least one of a glaze and a paint on the clear coat, and surface treating to reveal grains of the workpiece. Disclosed also are items of furniture and sheet materials treated by the aforementioned process.
UV CURABLE SEALANT COMPOSITION AND PROTECTOR APPLIED TO WOOD AND POROUS SUBSTRATES
An essentially 100% solids, single-component, UV curable, low-viscosity, penetrating sealant composition for wood substrates and other porous substrates is prepared from an acrylate-methacrylate mixture, a functionalized resin, an unsaturated fatty acid triglyceride oil, and a photoinitiator. The sealant composition may further contain a metal catalyst, an amine synergist, fillers, pigments, dyes, flow and leveling additives, air release chemicals, UV absorbers, hindered amine light stabilizers, fungicides, insect repellents, and/or mold inhibitors. The sealant composition exhibits fast cure times along with resistance to degradation.
Method for Making Nano Veneer
A process for producing nano veneers generally involving: placing a veneer to be treated in a vacuum vessel; adding a nano carbon powder and nano silicon dioxide suspension in the vacuum vessel; reducing the pressure in the vessel over a first period of time; increasing the pressure in the vessel; letting the contents of the vessel rest over a second period of time. The veneer may optionally be subjected to ultrasonic treatment, ultraviolet solidification treatment, or subsequent pressurization treatments to obtain the final nano veneer product. As a result, veneer manufactured using embodiments of the present invention will have the advantages of high strength, wear resistance, pollution resistance, acid and alkali resistance, water segregation and decay resistance.
METHOD FOR COATING A PREFERABLY PLATE-SHAPED WORKPIECE
The invention relates to a method which has applications in the furniture and component industry. In particular, planar workpieces are coated in order to adapt their exteriors to the wishes of individual customers. A curable substance is applied and a three-dimensional structure is thus produced, at least partially in the region of the narrow side surface layer.
Method of sealing surfaces
The present invention relates to an article whose surface has been at least partly sealed and to methods of its sealing, the sealing layer comprising a reactive melt layer and a coating layer. The invention provides a method of sealing at least part of the surface of an article, comprising the steps of: (a) applying a reactive melt layer based on polyurethane to at least one part of the surface of the article; (b) smoothing the reactive melt layer; and (c) applying a coating material to form a coating layer on the reactive melt layer, the coating layer being applied before the full curing of the reactive melt layer.
PROCESS FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A MULTILAYER COATED SURFACE AND A PRODUCT CONTAINING A MULTILAYER COATED SURFACE
The method according to the invention consists in that the carrier is covered with at least two varnished layers, the two layers being made of electron curable varnishes, which may contain an additive increasing adhesion between the layers, and if the layer which is applied first, counting from the side of the carrier, containing an interlayer adhesion increasing additive, is irradiated with an excimer lamp and then pre-polymerized by electron radiation or UV light, then after applying the second layer also containing an interlayer adhesion increasing additive, the combined layers are cured by electron radiation or UV light. On the other hand, if the layer applied first, counting from the carrier side, is only pre-polymerized by electron radiation or UV light, then after applying the second layer, which then contains an additive increasing adhesion between the layers, it is subjected to irradiation by an excimer lamp and then the combined layers are cured by electron radiation or UV light. As a result, it is possible to obtain a product whose layer refined with excimer lamp and the layer only cured with electron radiation or UV light, are bound together regardless of the order of their occurrence.
