Systems and methods of forming a fluid barrier

The present disclosure provides fluid barriers as well as systems and methods of forming fluid barriers. The method includes cleaning, via a blast media, a first side of a component and heating the component to a first temperature. Subsequently, the component is cleaned using a solvent. Subsequent to heating at least the component, a primer coating layer is formed on the first side of the component, and a topcoat layer is formed in contact with the primer coating layer. A primer coating material can be heated to a second temperature prior to formation of the primer coating layer. The first temperature can be different than the second temperature.

Provided is an aqueous coating composition which has excellent storage stability and whereby high coating film performance in terms of hardness, water resistance, etc., can be exhibited even when the aqueous coating composition is cured at a relatively low temperature. Disclosed is an aqueous coating composition which contains (A) a resin containing hydroxyl groups and carboxyl groups, (B) a blocked polyisocyanate compound, (C) a phosphate-group-containing compound, and (D) a basic compound, and which has a pH in the range of 7.0-8.2, wherein the basic compound (D) contains a specific quantity of (D1) a basic compound which has an acid dissociation constant (PKa) in the range of 7.0-8.5 and a boiling point in the range of 100-200 C.

Crosslinkable flame-retardant coating composition

The invention is directed to a crosslinkable flame-retardant coating composition comprising the following components: a) a dendritic polymer having hydroxyl groups, wherein the dendritic polymer has a hydroxyl number in the range of 80 to 800, b) a polyol having at least 3 hydroxyl groups, c) an ammonium polyphosphate compound, d) a base coat polymer selected from a polycarbamate resin or a polymer bearing carboxyl groups, and e) a crosslinker for crosslinking the base coat polymer selected from a compound having two or more aldehyde groups, acetals or hemiacetals of the aldehydes, or a polycarbodiimide. Such a cross-linkable flame-retardant coating composition improves the overall appearance of the cross-linked base coating on a substrate and also imparts improved flame-retardancy.

MULTI-LAYER COATING FOR STAIN PROTECTION AND STAIN RELEASE

Implementations of the present disclosure generally relate to coatings for textiles and other substrates. In one or more implementation, methods for forming a protective coating on a substrate are provided and include depositing a hydrophobic base coating on at least one of a first or second surface of the substrate to form a first coated substrate, where the hydrophobic base coating is free of fluorocarbon compounds. The method further includes drying the first coated substrate by air-drying in ambient conditions or by heating the first coated substrate and depositing a hydrophilic top coating onto the hydrophobic base coating.

Aqueous basecoat composition comprising a silane-based additive and having improved adhesion properties and multilayer coatings produced from said basecoat compositions

Described herein is an aqueous basecoat composition including a silane-based additive as hardener/self-crosslinking material to improve adhesion of the basecoat to the under- and overlying coating layers, as well as the cohesion property of the basecoat itself. Also described herein is a mixer system for preparing an aqueous refinish basecoat composition including at least one base color component, at least one pigment-free component, at least one hardening component including the silane-based additive and optionally at least one rheology module as well as a method to prepare an aqueous basecoat composition from said mixer system. Further, described herein is a method of coating a substrate with the basecoat composition and a clearcoat composition and jointly curing the basecoat and clearcoat composition as well as to a coated substrate obtained from the method. Finally, described herein is a method of using the silane-based compound as hardening additive in aqueous basecoat compositions.
