A method of making a treated article having a metal surface using a composition that includes an amino-functional compound having at least one silane group, a fluorinated compound represented by formula Rf{X[Si(Y).sub.3-x(R).sub.x].sub.y}.sub.z, and an organic solvent having a flashpoint of at least 40 C. is also disclosed. Another method includes treating the metal surface with a primer composition including an amino-functional compound having at least one silane group to provide a primed metal surface and subsequently treating the primed metal surface with a treatment composition including a fluorinated compound represented by formula Rf{X[Si(Y).sub.3-x(R).sub.x].sub.y}.sub.z. The compositions each include up to one percent by weight of an organic solvent having a flashpoint up to 40 C.

The average particle diameter of the hydrophilic silica particles is preferably at least 5 nm and not more than 30 nm.

A method for producing a coated article, which comprises applying a powder coating material comprising a fluororesin (A), a non-fluororesin (B) and a metallic pigment (C) to the surface of a substrate, and heating the substrate having the powder coating material applied, to a temperature of at least the glass transition temperature of the fluororesin (A) and the non-fluororesin (B), followed by cooling, to form a coating film on the substrate surface, and which is characterized in that the content of the metallic pigment (C) is from 0.7 to 23 mass % to the total amount of the powder coating material, the PCI value of the coating film is at least 6, and the flip-flop value is at least 1.2.

WATER-REPELLENT, OIL-REPELLENT MEMBER AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING WATER-REPELLENT, OIL-REPELLENT MEMBER

This water-repellent, oil-repellent member is obtained via a method comprising: a step for wet-coating a substrate surface with a solution containing an organic silicon compound comprising multiple silanol groups and a solvent; a step for drying the solvent to form a primer layer; a step for wet-coating the primer layer with a solution containing a fluorine-containing compound and a solvent, followed by drying the solvent, or dry-coating with the fluorine-containing compound obtained by evaporating the solvent from the solution; and a step for curing the fluorine-containing compound to form a water-repellent, oil-repellent layer. The water-repellent, oil-repellent member is obtained by providing, on various substrates, a primer layer of a specific thickness containing, as a main component, an organic silicon compound comprising multiple silanol groups, followed by providing, on the primer layer, a water-repellent, oil-repellent layer of a specific thickness containing, as a main component, the cured fluorine-containing compound according to the above mentioned method. It is thus possible to stably and simply form a water-repellent, oil-repellent coating exhibiting superior abrasion resistance on various substrates, and the primer layer and water-repellent, oil-repellent layer can be applied using a room-temperature (25 C.) process.

A multilayer film includes a substrate layer; a surface protective layer integrally laminated on a first surface of the substrate layer, the surface protective layer containing a polyurethane which is a reaction product of a polyol (P) having a hydroxyl value of 25 to 380 mgKOH/g and a content of fluorine atoms of 0.01 to 20% by mass and a polyisocyanate (I); and an adhesive layer integrally laminated on a second surface of the substrate layer. Also described is a two-liquid curable coating agent for forming the surface protective layer.
