METHODS OF CLEANING A COMPONENT WITHIN A TURBINE ENGINE

A method of cleaning a component within a turbine that includes disassembling the turbine engine to provide a flow path to an interior passageway of the component from an access point. The component has coked hydrocarbons formed thereon. The method further includes discharging a flow of cleaning solution towards the interior passageway from the access point, wherein the cleaning solution is configured to remove the coked hydrocarbons from the component.

COMPOSITIONS, METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR REMOVAL OF STARCH

The present invention is directed to compositions, methods and systems for the removal of starch. The methods include: providing cleaning solution and rinsing fluid along supply line(s); connecting the supply line(s) to one or more cleaning applicators positioned to apply the cleaning solution or the rinsing fluid to one or more surfaces of a starch applicator system; and providing a controller which is able to control application of the cleaning solution and the rinsing fluid through the one or more cleaning applicators. The systems include the components described in relation to the methods. The compositions include about 5 to 15% w/w alpha amylase to break down the starch into water-soluble units; and non-ionic surfactant(s) and/or solvent(s) to react at the interface of the starch and surface it is attached to as well as liquify the resins.

Turbines and associated equipment are normally cleaned via water or chemical pressure washing via a mist, spray systems. However, these systems fail to reach deep across the gas path to remove fouling materials. Various embodiments herein pertain to apparatus and methods that utilize the water and existing chemicals to generate a foam. The foam can be introduced at that gas-path entrance of the equipment, where it contacts the stages and internal surfaces, to contact, scrub, carry, and remove fouling away from equipment to restore performance. Various embodiments pertain to spout assemblies for providing foam to the compressor of commercial fan engines, and in yet other embodiments to engines receiving air from a long inlet duct, especially those having a serpentine inlet ducts.
