SYSTEM FOR REDUCING ROLLED STOCK WASTE

A sensor assembly configured to detect rolled stock on a core includes a sensor configured to detect a first roll of stock unwinding from a core, the stock unwinding from the core of the first roll is supplied as a web of stock, wherein in response to the sensor detecting a first detection configuration, the sensor takes no action and continues to detect the first roll, and wherein in response to the sensor detecting a second detection configuration, the sensor provides a command to a splice assembly to transition to a second roll of stock to replace the first roll of stock.

Method for the hot measuring, during rolling, of a size of metal profiles

A method for the hot measuring of a transverse size of a metal profile to obtain a diameter and/or a mean thickness includes providing power with a sinusoidal current having at least two frequencies, a transmission element having at least two sections distinct and spatially separated from each other and disposed along a nominal axis of feed of the metal profile, generating an electromagnetic field with a desired profile of the force lines, and detecting a signal relating to the variations of the electromagnetic field due to the passage of the metal profile through the sections of the transmission element using a reception element having one or more sections distinct and spatially separated from each other and disposed along the nominal axis in a position of the transmission element.

ADAPTATION OF A ROLL MODEL

A storage device for two rolls in a roll stand is a component part of the roll stand or can be positioned relative to the roll stand in such a way that the rolls can be transferred from the roll stand into the storage device or vice versa. At least one measuring system is provided, by means of which the temperatures and/or the diameters of the rolls can be detected individually and independently of one another, at least at predefined detection positions, as viewed in the direction of the roll axes. After transmission to an automation unit that controls the roll stand, the unit can adapt a roll model, by means of which it repeatedly determines the temperatures and/or the diameters of the rolls, at predefined determination positions, in the direction of the roll axes, using operating data of the roll stand for the rolls of the same type.

Pre-heating and thermal control of work rolls in metal rolling processes and control systems thereof

Systems and methods for using full-width hot sprays to pre-heat rolling mills prior to processing of metal sheet or plate are described herein. The hot sprays may be individually controlled. Using hot sprays can allow the rolling mill to reach operating temperature and achieve a desired thermal crown so that metal sheet or plate may be processed immediately within tolerances for flatness and gauge accuracy. Pre-heating of rolling mills can eliminate the need of the rolling mill to operate in a transitional period of work roll heating and can increase efficiency by eliminating or reducing scrap material and mill downtime. Hot sprays may also be incorporated with existing coolant systems to provide thermal control systems for rolling mills with bi-directional temperature controls.

A method for controlling a roller line, preferably a cold roller line, which has one or more roller stands each with two working rollers, which form a roller gap, through which a roller band is transportable. One or both working rollers can shift relative to the other, so that the roller gap is adjustable. The method includes making available a reference speed, which is a parameter for controlling the roller line, measurement of speed of the roller band before the inlet into the roller gap, measurement of the thickness of the roller band before the inlet into the roller gap, and adjustment of the roller gap of one or more roller frames in the roller line on the basis of measured speed and thickness before the inlet into the roller gap as well as the reference speed.
