Variable thickness continuous casting for tailor rolling
Methods of forming a high-strength metal alloy precursor by tailor-casting strips having a tailored thickness across a width of a strip material are provided. The tailor-cast strips have varying thickness throughout the width, which can then be further tailor rolled to a final required thickness profile/tailored thickness. Such tailor-casting method can be conducted by contacting a patterned surface of a casting roller or a casting block with a liquid high-strength metal alloy in a continuous casting process. The present disclosure provides methods of continuously casting a strip having varying thickness across the width allows for improved product in subsequent processing, like tailor rolling. Methods of making a high-strength metal alloy structural automotive component from a tailor-cast blank having a tailored thickness are also provided.
Method of forming tailored cast blanks
A method of forming tailored cast blanks including determining at least one of a thickness pattern or profile pattern for a blank, generating a layout for a series of blanks having the determined thickness or profile pattern and casting a strip in accordance with the layout, including varying the caster width during casting of the strip.
Sheet metal blank
A process includes flexible rolling of a strip made of a metallic material, wherein a thickness profile with different sheet thicknesses along the length of the strip is produced such that successive regions of the flexibly rolled strip each correspond to a target thickness profile of a sheet metal blank to be cut out of same; determining a measured thickness profile of a plurality of successive regions of the strip; calculating a target position in the strip for a sheet metal blank to be cut out of the strip depending on the generated measured thickness profile of at least two successive regions of the strip; cutting the flexibly rolled strip by at least one cutting device along the target position for producing the sheet meal blank. A plant is further provided for producing a sheet metal blank.
Flexibly rolling metal strip material
An apparatus for processing metallic strip material comprises a feeder for feeding strip material; a strip drive with at least one controllable traction drive with a carrier and a motor, a drivable traction loop and a press assembly, wherein the power of the motor and the pressing force of the press assembly are variably controllable; a roller assembly for flexible rolling; a measuring device for measuring a physical parameter of a component acting on the strip material; wherein the driving power of the motor is controllable on the basis of the physical parameter measured by the measuring device.
Metal strip having a constant thickness and varying mechanical properties
The invention relates to a metal strip which is produced from steel by hot rolling and by cold rolling of the metal strip. The invention also relates to a blank produced from the metal strip, the use of the metal strip, and to a method of producing it. The object of providing metal strip from which components of minimum weight which are adapted to specific loads can be produced with little cost or complication is achieved by metal strip of the generic kind which, after the cold rolling, is of constant thickness and has, section by section, regions whose mechanical properties vary. What after the cold rolling means, for the purposes of the present invention, is that, immediately on completion of the cold rolling, i.e. without any further treatment such as heat treatment, regions whose mechanical properties vary are present in the metal strip.
Method of making a structural element for aeronautical construction comprising differential work-hardening
A process for fabricating a worked product or a monolithic multi-functional structural element comprising aluminium alloy includes a hot working step and at least one transformation step by cold plastic deformation after the hot transformation step. At least two zones of the structural element have imposed generalized average plastic deformations and the imposed deformations are different by at least 2%. Structural elements can be fabricated, particularly for aeronautical construction, with properties that are variable while their geometric characteristics are identical to those of existing components. The process is economic and controllable, and properties can be varied for parts not requiring any artificial ageing.
Method for Manufacturing a Product from a Flexibly Rolled Strip Material
A method for manufacturing a product from a flexibly rolled strip material includes the steps of: providing a strip material made from sheet steel; flexibly rolling the strip material such that a variable thickness is produced along the length of the strip material; electrolytically coating the strip material with a metallic coating material containing at least 93% of zinc by mass after the flexible rolling; heat treating at temperature above 350 C. and below a solidus line of the coating material after the electrolytic coating; working a blank from the flexibly rolled strip material; and hot forming the blank.
MANUFACTURE OF SEMI-FINISHED PRODUCTS AND STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS WITH LOCALLY DIFFERENT MATERIAL THICKNESSES
A method for producing a semifinished product with locally different material thicknesses may involve preparing a multilayer, metal material composite, which has a plurality of layers with different ductilities, and rolling the material composite in a method for flexible rolling through a rolling gap formed between two rollers. The rolling gap may be configured such that regions with different material thicknesses are formed. In some cases, the multilayer, metal material composite is rolled at room temperature. Further, the plurality of layers of the multilayer, metal material composite may include a first outer layer disposed on a first side of a middle layer and a second outer layer disposed on a second side of the middle layer, with the second side of the middle layer being opposite the first side.
EQUIPMENT FOR AUTOMATIC SHEARING OF COLD-ROLLED VARIABLE THICKNESS PLATE, AND SHEARING METHOD BASED ON SAME
Disclosed are an automatic shearing apparatus for a cold-rolled plate of variable thickness, and a shearing method using the apparatus. The method comprises that: a thickness gauge (4) and a length-measuring device (3) are successively arranged in front of shears (5); and a control device identifies the profile of a strip material passing through the thickness gauge (4) according to length tracing data and measured thickness values, and determines the position of the strip material at the shears (5), simultaneously compares the profile with the set profile of a plate of continuously variable thickness, and decides the action time of the shears. The apparatus and the method can efficiently and accurately shear rolls of supplied materials of continuously variable thickness into plates of continuously variable thickness which can be directly used by a user.
