A system for isolating each end of a cylindrical coil wall from a tensioned binding medium employed to retain the coil wall in an axially compacted state. The system includes a magazine for containing a supply of pliable inserts. A feeding mechanism advances inserts from the magazine and along a guide for successive delivery to a clamp. The clamp is operative to releasably hold an insert received from the guide. The clamp is shiftable to position the insert in a gap between the end of the coil wall and a path along which a binding medium is directed prior to being tensioned. When the binding medium is tensioned, the insert is pulled from the clamp into a protective position tightly sandwiched between the tensioned binding medium and the coil end.

METHOD OF JOINING STRIP-SHAPED SHEETS

A method of joining strip-shaped sheets includes a support step of placing a support member in contact with a reverse feed direction end of a strip-shaped sheet fed to a pressing machine and a feed direction end of a new strip-shaped sheet, and a joining step of joining the new strip-shaped sheet to the strip-shaped sheet by attaching a tape on the reverse feed direction end of the strip-shaped sheet and the feed direction end of the new strip-shaped sheet, wherein in the joining step, the tape is attached from a side opposite the support member with the support member placed in contact with the reverse feed direction end of the strip-shaped sheet and the feed direction end of the new strip-shaped sheet. The problem of the variation in welding quality encountered when welding thin and wide strip-shaped sheets together is resolved and the strip-shaped sheet is fed smoothly.

The invention relates to a method for producing a metal strip (1) in a continuous casting and rolling process, in which a slab is first cast in a casting machine and is then fed to a finishing rolling mill situated downstream in the direction of feed (F) of the strip (1), where it is rolled. According to the invention, in order to enable the recycling of scrap while achieving a compact design, the following steps are performed in the event of a planned or unplanned production interruption in the finishing rolling mill: a) cutting through the strip (1) at a point (4) between the casting machine (2) and the finishing rolling mill by means of a cutting device (5); b) feeding the part of the strip (1) that follows the cut into a strip store (6) by means of a driver (7), the driver (7) being situated downstream of the cutting device (5) in the direction of feed (F); c) cutting through the strip (1) a second time by means of the cutting device (5) and cutting the following part of the strip (1) into pieces by means of the cutting device (5); d) cutting the stored strip section into pieces, preferably of a defined length. The invention further relates to an apparatus for carrying out the method.

A method in accordance with the present application includes sending a raw tube from a drum to an unwinding side capstan while the raw tube is rotated around a central axis perpendicular to a winding shaft of the drum by rotating the drum and the unwinding side capstan about the central axis concurrently with unwinding of the raw tube from the drum holding the raw tube, on an inner surface of which multiple straight grooves along a longitudinal direction of the raw tube are formed with an interval in a circumferential direction, in a coil shape, to wind the raw tube around the unwinding side capstan, and drawing in which the unwound raw tube is drawn while the diameter of the raw tube is reduced, and then the raw tube is wound around the drawing side capstan to twist the raw tube and obtain an inner spiral grooved tube.
