SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR NON-CONTACT TENSIONING OF A METAL STRIP

Systems and methods of non-contact tensioning of a metal strip during metal processing include passing the metal strip adjacent a magnetic rotor. The magnetic rotor is spaced apart from the metal strip by a first distance. The systems and methods also include tensioning the metal strip through the magnetic rotor by rotating the magnetic rotor. Rotating the magnetic rotor induces a magnetic field into the metal strip such that the metal strip is tensioned in an upstream direction or a downstream direction. In other aspects, rotating the magnetic rotor induces a magnetic field into the metal strip such that a force normal to a surface of the metal strip is applied to the metal strip.

Cable dispenser

A cable dispenser which aids in transporting, storing, and deploying coiled or spooled wire is disclosed. The cable dispenser includes a base with a rotating circular top plate which has adjustable guide posts that laterally stabilize a spool of wire. The cable dispenser further includes a center post with a top-mounted handle for carrying or suspending the dispenser from a hook-like appendage. The guide posts may be removed to allow use with spooled wire by placing the spooled wire on the center rod. The base includes a bearing which enables rotation of the top plate and the wire.

COILING DEVICE WITH ASYMMETRIC COOLING OF THE COILED STRIP

For a rolled metal strip, in particular a steel strip; a drive roller unit deflects the metal strip from a first transportation direction to a second transportation direction, and the strip is then fed to a coiler. The metal strip is coiled in the coiler to form a coil having a coil diameter. Plastic deformation of an end portion of the metal strip is caused such that the end portion in its uninfluenced state is curved at a curvature radius. The plastic deformation of the end portion (8) is at least partially caused by an asymmetric impingement with a cooling medium (21) on the sides of the end portion (8). The impingement of the end portion (8) with the cooling medium (21) is performed across a length of the end portion (8) that is longer than half the outermost coiling of the coil (6) but smaller than the outermost coiling of the coil (6).

APPARATUS FOR INSPECTING AND SAMPLING A WOUND COIL OF METAL STRIP

Apparatus (1) for inspecting and sampling a wound coil (2) of metal strip (3) having a supporting arrangement for the wound coil (2). The supporting arrangement has at least two base rollers (4) arranged adjacent to one another. The rollers have roller axes (5) extending parallel to one another and onto which the coil (2) is placed for support. An inspection device (6) is arranged alongside the supporting arrangement. The inspection device (6) performs an inspection of the metal strip (3) at least when the metal strip (3) is a thin metal strip. A sampling device (10) arranged opposite the inspection device (6) with respect to the supporting arrangement, such that the supporting arrangement is located between the inspection device (6) and the sampling device (10). The sampling device (10) has a separating device (12) which takes a sample of the metal strip (3) when the metal strip (3) is a thick metal strip (3).

A breaker roll apparatus assembly for minimizing coil breaks in strips has a frame, a center roll extending from a rail mounted to the frame and actuated by a hydraulic cylinder, and a plurality of side rolls positioned on opposite sides of the center roll. The plurality of rolls extend from rails mounted to the frame and are also actuated by hydraulic cylinders. A coil mounting member uncoils a coil of strip through the assembly into contact with the center roll and at least one of the side rolls. Each of the rolls can be raised and lowered to accommodate various diameters and widths of coil.

Wire straightening apparatus

A wire straightening apparatus that straightens kinks of a wire that is fed along a wire feeding path includes one or a plurality of straightening mechanisms. Each straightening mechanism includes a plurality of first straightening rollers and one or a plurality of second straightening rollers. Each roller has a groove along its outer periphery, the groove gradually deepening toward a bottom portion. The bottom portion of the groove of each first straightening roller is spaced from the wire feeding path in a first direction, and the bottom portion of the groove of each second straightening roller is spaced from the wire feeding path in a second direction opposite to the first direction. With this structure, the wire can be made to follow a path that meanders as viewed from a direction perpendicular to axes of the straightening rollers.
