An automated bender and its method of operation according to some embodiments of the disclosure is provided. The automated bender includes a carousel which has all of the necessary components for bending a variety of conduit sizes provided thereon. The carousel can be rotated to a desired bending position to bend a particular type of conduit. A straight workpiece is fed into the automated bender and a bent workpiece, which may have multiple bends therein, is output from the automated bender. This bending process is performed without manual intervention. Software for achieving same is provided.

A forming apparatus and method for forming a workpiece used a medical procedure is provided. A controllable bending machine for bending the workpiece is provided. A template is manually formable. The template has a shape sensor so as to sense a shape of the template. A controller receives template shape data from the shape sensor and operates the bending machine in accordance with the template shape data. The bending of the workpiece includes a spring back compensating operation which performs a first bending operation on the workpiece in accordance with the template shape data, acquires workpiece shape data from one of the shape sensor re-disposed associated with the workpiece, or another shape sensor associated with the workpiece, and performs a second bending operation compensating for spring back. A method employs the template for workpiece measurements and the forming apparatus using the measurements for forming the workpiece.

The bending includes forming the bent portion having a ratio R/W which is equal to or lower than a predetermined value, where the ratio R/W is a ratio obtained by dividing a bending radius R [mm] of the bent portion on a centroid line of the steel material by a dimension W [mm] in a bend direction in a cross-section of the steel material orthogonal to the centroid line, slowing down a feeding speed of the steel material less than V1, where the V1 is the feeding speed of the steel material while forming the bent portion having the ratio R/W which is more than the predetermined value, and reducing the high-frequency power supplied while forming the high-temperature portion less than Q1, where the Q1 is the high-frequency power supplied while forming the bent portion having the ratio R/W which is more than the predetermined value.
