A reciprocating seating unit includes: a base; a frame including a generally horizontal seat and opposed arms; a backrest; a reciprocating unit attached to the base, the reciprocating unit configured to permit reciprocating longitudinal movement of the frame and backrest relative to the base; and a reclining mechanism attached to the reciprocating unit, the frame and the backrest. The reclining mechanism includes pivotally interconnected links and is configured to move the backrest between an upright position, wherein the backrest takes a first backrest angle relative to the underlying surface and the frame is positioned relative to the base in a first location, and a reclining position, wherein the backrest takes a second backrest angle that is shallower than the first backrest angle, and the frame is positioned relative to the base in a second location that is at least 3 inches in front of the first location.

Cable connector for a chair function controller and operator
10278504 · 2019-05-07 · ·

Disclosed herein is a chair of the kind that is shipped to a user disassembled. The chair includes at least one chair function controller (i.e., a paddle) that is actuated to control a chair function operator (e.g., a gas cylinder located below and coupled to the chair seat). During assembly, a pair of cable sections are mechanically and serially connected to one another at a force responsive connector block that is located within and slidable through a cable connector housing at the bottom of the chair seat. By virtue of connecting the first and second cables together at the connector block, the chair function controller paddle is connected to the chair function operator so that an actuation of the controller causes a pulling force to be applied to the chair function operator to enable the seat or back of the chair to be displaced.

Compact furniture

Furniture such as a cot, table, or chair is provided that uses shock-corded poles in combination with one or many torsion spring mechanisms to achieve a compact pack size. Alternatively, central hubs may be used in lieu of the spring mechanisms. The furniture maintains its usefulness by assembling to a size comparable with conventional full-sized furniture. One or many torsion springs associated with the furniture allow a user to easily achieve tension over desired elements of the furniture while reducing user exertion.
