An apparatus for raising and lowering a payload, particularly a chair and its user to provide assistance with the sit-to-stand task. The apparatus comprises a base, a platform, linkages attached between base and platform to allow only vertical motion therebetween, an inflatable bag also situated between base and platform, and a source of pressurized fluid such as compressed air, whereby the bag is inflated and deflated to raise and lower the platform. The user may use an existing, favorite chair, including a reclining chair, which is placed upon the platform without modification. In a low position, the platform is quite close to the floor, providing comfort during sitting. In a high position, the platform is greatly elevated, to provide a full measure of sit-to-stand assistance. The apparatus is compact, doesn't interfere with reclining or rocking while sitting, and is easily deployable, movable, and storable.

A furniture leg protective sock is constructed of a stretchable/expandable non-friction material, which is double-layered to form an outer layer, an inner layer, and a gap therebetween. The furniture leg protective sock includes friction material which is located on the inner surface of the furniture leg protective sock and a stabilizing material, which is located in the gap between the inner surface of the inner layer and the inner surface of the outer layer, to provide rigidity and stretchability to furniture leg protective sock. The furniture leg protective sock also includes non-penetrating material, which is located in a bottom portion of the furniture leg protective sock to prevent a furniture leg from piercing through the furniture leg protective sock.

A stowable seat base includes a frame with a first side member, a second side member, a first cross member coupled to the first side member and the second side member, and a second cross member coupled to the first side member and the second side member. A first leg assembly is hingedly coupled to the first side member and the second side member. A second leg assembly hingedly coupled to the first side member and the second side member. A first d-shaped loop coupled to the first cross member of the frame. A latch assembly is coupled to the second cross member of the frame and is configured to retain a seat on the frame. A spring actuated rocking mechanism can be attached to the legs of a collapsible chair to allow for the user to rock in the collapsible chair. The mechanism may be attached at the factory or retrofitted to the chair. The rocking mechanism can be attached to the end of a leg or disposed within a leg, having a leg portion above and below the mechanism.

An adjustable seating solution that enables users to adjust several seating characteristics is disclosed. In a relatively low sitting position, the disclosed device provides some support if the user leans back, but predominately supports the user's weight and requires the user to engage core muscles to maintain good posture. The disclosed apparatus enables the user to adjust the seat upward to a leaning position. A platform extends forward under the user's feet to ensure that when the user leans against the seat, the apparatus remains stable. The apparatus enables the seat portion to be tilted, such that varying contours can be selected to engage the user's body in a desired way. At low heights, the user can tilt the seat portion forward to require the user to further engage core muscles while seated. At higher heights, the user can customize the contour of the seat that engages the user's body.

A space saving convertible seat and chest of drawers apparatus having a first chair superimposable inverted onto a second chair wherein a seat of the first chair nestles into a seat of the second chair when said first chair is inverted, a back of the first chair fits flush overlying a front apron of the second chair, and a front apron of the first chair nestles flush into a back of the second chair, each back of the first and second chairs thereby formative of respective sides of a chest of drawers, each of said first and second chairs having a slidable drawer disposed in position underneath each seat thereof, whereby the first and second chairs are arrangeable as a set of two chairs or as a single chest of drawers.

The invention discloses a pedestal apparatus for an article of furniture. The pedestal apparatus has an elongate post formation defining a first end and a second end and having a longitudinal axis. The post formation immovably supports a fixed foot arrangement and also movably supports a variable foot arrangement. The variable foot arrangement is selectively movable along and around the longitudinal axis for varying a longitudinal and angular proximity between the variable foot arrangement and the fixed foot arrangement. Biasing means are provided for controlling movement of the variable foot arrangement whereby, in use, the biasing means causes both the fixed foot arrangement and the variable foot arrangement to abut an underlying surface and thereby provide a substantial stabilization of the pedestal apparatus.
