A mechanism for raising and lowering an armrest for a seat includes an armrest, a rotatable hub, and an actuating linkage between the armrest and the hub, the rotatable hub having a cam that operates the actuating linkage to raise the armrest wherein the cam can rotate through a first angle of rotation where the actuating linkage is not operated a second angle of rotation where the actuating linkage is operated. The cam can rotate through a third angle of rotation where the actuating linkage is not operated, this angle being different to the first angle of rotation. The cam is torsionally linked to the rotation of a seat member.

A locking device for an armrest pole. The locking device comprises a housing element configured for slidably accommodating the armrest pole. A locking handle comprises an abutment end, the locking handle is rotatably connected to the housing element and configured for rotation between a locked position where the armrest pole is fixed in the locking device and an unlocked position where the armrest pole is slidable in the locking device. The locking device also comprises a wedge element comprising a wedge and an abutment portion, the abutment portion configured for being directly or indirectly biased by the abutment end, the wedge configured and arranged for at least partly insertion between a portion of the armrest pole and at least a portion of the housing element in the locked position.

An inclined saddle type seat is supported by three legs. A forward chair leg is located between the feet of, and beneath the center of gravity of the seated person. Two chair legs extend rearward. The chair permits rocking backwards, diagonally forward, and rocking about the forward chair leg. This “active seating” provides for easy transitions between sitting and standing, shifting of weight, and conveys an open positive body language. Multiple embodiments and architectures are disclosed multiple configurations including; rigid, folding, and for quick disassembly. The chairs may be constructed of various rigid and flexible materials, with optional features including; armrests, footrests, caster wheels, cushioning, and a standing desk type work surface. The chair eliminates the need for connection to a base platform beneath the user's feet.
