SUB-MICRON PARTICLES OF RARE EARTH AND TRANSITION METALS AND ALLOYS, INCLUDING RARE EARTH MAGNET MATERIALS
The present disclosure is directed to methods of preparing substantially spherical metallic alloyed particles, having micron and sub-micron (i.e., nanometer)-scaled dimensions, and the powders so prepared, as well as articles derived from these powders. In particular embodiments, these metallic alloyed particles, complising rare earth metals, can be prepared in sizes as small 80 nm in diameter with size variances as low as 2-5%.
BATTERY ELECTRODE CONTINUOUS CASTING DRUM, SHOE, MACHINE AND METHOD
For making battery electrodes, a composite strip of a cast ribbon of an electrically conductive metal attached to and extending along an edge of a web of electrically conductive carbon fiber material, also called a carbon felt in some examples, with a plurality of spaced apart notches cast in the ribbon and opening to an edge of the ribbon spaced from the carbon fiber material. A rotatable drum with a mold cavity and a confronting casting shoe for supplying molten metal, such as liquid lead, to the cavity may be used in a casting machine to continuous cast the composite strip.
Clamping system for fastening a cooling unit to an encircling supporting element of a caterpillar-type casting machine, and method for fastening/releasing a cooling unit to/from an encircling supporting element of a caterpillar-type casting machine
A clamping system for fastening a cooling unit on a circulating supporting element of a caterpillar-type casting machine includes at least one connecting element, which is pre-tensioned in its longitudinal direction by a spring, and a clamping arrangement, by which the cooling unit is fastenable on the supporting element. The connecting element is accommodated in a displaceably mounted manner in the direction of its longitudinal axis inside the supporting element. The clamping arrangement is formed by a head on an upper end face of the connecting element and a recess, which is provided on/in the cooling unit and is brought into interaction therewith. The connecting element is pre-tensioned by the spring toward the supporting element and is transferred into a clamping position, in which the cooling unit, when the head of the connecting element engages with the recess provided on/in the cooling unit, is automatically clamped with the supporting element.
Iron nitride permanent magnet and technique for forming iron nitride permanent magnet
A permanent magnet may include a Fe.sub.16N.sub.2 phase constitution. In some examples, the permanent magnet may be formed by a technique that includes straining an iron wire or sheet comprising at least one iron crystal in a direction substantially parallel to a <001> crystal axis of the iron crystal; nitridizing the iron wire or sheet to form a nitridized iron wire or sheet; annealing the nitridized iron wire or sheet to form a Fe.sub.16N.sub.2 phase constitution in at least a portion of the nitridized iron wire or sheet; and pressing the nitridized iron wires and sheets to form bulk permanent magnet.
DEPOSITION OF REACTIVE METALS WITH PROTECTION LAYER FOR HIGH VOLUME MANUFACTURING

Implementations of the present disclosure particularly relate to a method and apparatus for coating flexible substrates with a low melting temperature metal or metal alloy. In one implementation, a method is provided. The method includes delivering a transfer liquid to a quenching surface of a rotating casting drum. The method further includes forming a material layer stack over the rotating casting drum by delivering a molten metal or molten metal alloy toward the quenching surface of the rotating casting drum. The method further includes transferring the material layer stack from the rotating casting drum to a continuous flexible substrate, wherein the quenching surface of the rotating casting drum is cooled to a temperature at which the layers of the material layer stack solidify.
