METHOD TO PRODUCE LOW-COST METAL MATRIX COMPOSITES FOR INDUSTRIAL, SPORTS, & COMMERCIAL APPLICATIONS

A method of forming a metal matrix composite component includes positioning a preform including an electrically non-conductive fibrous material in a shaping tool. The fibrous material is pre-coated. The method includes flowing a molten metal comprising zinc into the shaping tool so that at least a portion of the preform is enveloped by the molten metal to form the metal matrix composite component; and cooling the metal matrix composite component.

Method for manufacturing a cast bar and tube made of a magnesium alloy

A manufacturing method for a cast bar and tube made of a magnesium alloy, includes steps of preparing a manufacturing device; depressurizing a vacuum chamber through a depressurization device; heating a vicinity of an opening of a hollow tube; inserting the opening of the hollow tube into a molten metal; switching a valve member to be open; introducing the molten metal into a cylindrical part, and filling the cylindrical part with the molten metal; cooling the hollow tube; and continuously vibrating the hollow tube until completing solidification of the molten metal in the cylindrical part.

Methods of manufacturing degradable tools using a galvanic carrier and tools manufactured thereof

A method of manufacturing a degradable article comprises: forming a mixture comprising composite particles dispersed in a metallic matrix material; the composite particles comprising a carrier and a disintegration agent coated on the carrier or embedded in the carrier, or a combination thereof and having a density that is about 0.2 to about 2.5 equivalents to that of the metallic matrix material when measured under the same testing conditions; and molding or casting the mixture to form a degradable article. The disintegration agent forms a plurality of galvanic cells with the metallic matrix material, or the carrier, or a combination thereof, in the degradable article.

Unit Cell Titanium Casting

A system (5) and method (800) for unit cell casting of titanium or titanium-alloys is disclosed herein. The system (5) comprises an external chamber (45), a crucible (10) positioned within the external chamber (45), an induction coil (15) positioned around the crucible, an internal chamber (40) positioned within the external chamber (45), and a mold (30) positioned within the internal chamber (40). The external chamber (45) is evacuated and a pressurized gas is injected into the evacuated external chamber (45) to create a pressurized external chamber (45). An ingot (20) is melted within the crucible utilizing induction heating generated by the induction coil (15). The internal chamber (40) is evacuated to create an evacuated internal chamber (40). The titanium alloy material of the ingot (20) is completely transferred into the mold (30) from the crucible (10) using a pressure differential created between the external chamber (45) and the internal chamber (40).
