Method for manufacturing a part out of a metal matrix composite material, and related device
A method (S) for manufacturing a part (1) out of a metal matrix composite material, including the following steps: opening (S1) a device (10) that includes a supporting portion (14) and a molding portion (14); placing (S2) a fibrous reinforcement into the device (10); sealably closing (S3) the device (10) by providing a space between the fibrous reinforcement (2) and the device portions; feeding (S4) the molten metal matrix (3) into the device (10) such as to fill the space between the fibrous reinforcement (2) and the device portions (13, 14); and applying (S5) a force onto the equipment (10) such as to impregnate the fibrous reinforcement (2) with the metal matrix (3).

AIRCRAFT WING COMPONENT
The trailing edge structure of an aircraft wing is subjected, in use, to high temperature efflux from an aircraft's engines. Such elevated temperatures can detrimentally affect the ultimate tensile strength of the trailing edge. An aircraft wing component includes composite material having a first portion including a metal matrix containing reinforcing material, and a second portion including a metal matrix containing hollow metal ceramic spheres, the second portion being adjacent a surface of the composite material. The provision of two portions, one of which contains reinforcing material and the other comprising hollow spheres means that the composite material has both structural strength and heat shielding qualities where they are needed most in the component. The portion of composite containing the hollow metal ceramic spheres acts as an embedded layer of heat insulation.
REINFORCED METAL ALLOY FOR ENHANCED ARMOR PROTECTION AND METHODS
An armor plate and method of making an armor plate is provided having the steps of: suspending a carbon fiber weave within a mold; heating aluminum 6061 or 7075 alloy to a molten state; pouring the molten aluminum into the mold having ceramic particulates in the range of 1 to 60 percent by volume of the molten aluminum and in the range of 3-44 microns in diameter; cooling the resultant matrixed aluminum to ambient temperature; and laminating at least two layers of ballistic fiber to the matrixed aluminum

CO-MOLDED SPROCKET
A sprocket assembly includes a sprocket body preferably made of aluminum and at least one sprocket preferably made of steel. The sprocket assembly may include one, two, three, or more than three sprockets assembled around a central axis in the sprocket body. The sprockets have an internal design shaped to transfer the torque and the teeth on the sprocket transfer the torque to a chain or toothed belt. The steel sprockets are preferably co-molded with the aluminum sprocket body. In some embodiments, the sprocket assembly also includes at least one steel insert for each steel sprocket.
Methods of forming earth-boring tools, methods of affixing cutting elements to earth-boring tools
An earth-boring tool may include a body having at least one blade, and at least one cutting element recess may be formed in a surface of the at least one blade. At least one cutting element may be affixed within the at least one cutting element recess. The at least one cutting element may comprise a substantially cylindrical lateral side surface configured to allow the at least one cutting element to rotate about a longitudinal axis within the at least one cutting element recess when the at least one cutting element is partially inserted into the at least one cutting element recess. The at least one cutting element may also include a back face comprising alignment features configured to abut complementary alignment features disposed on a back surface of the at least one cutting element recess. Methods of forming earth-boring tool bodies.
