Annular weir
An annular weir is fixed at a bottom of a tundish and just under a long nozzle of a ladle in a continuous casting apparatus. The annular weir includes a cavity which has a substantially circular shaped transverse section. The cavity includes: an upper side opening configured to receive a stream of molten metal from an upper side through the long nozzle; an inner protrusion which is annular in shape and which extends toward an inner side from an upper end of an inner wall of the cavity; a first space on an inner side of the inner protrusion; and a second space which communicates with the first space 13a and which is on a lower side of the first space.
A METHOD OF MOLTEN METAL CASTING UTILIZING AN IMPACT PAD IN THE TUNDISH
A method of molten metal casting utilizing an impact pad in the tundish introduces that the molten metal is transported into the tundish, at the bottom of which is located the impact pad with the spherical top, which captures the initial impact flow, the flow of molten metal is optimized and the molten metal is led away from the tundish.
IMPACT PAD
An impact pad for metallurgical processes is formed from refractory material, and contains a base having an impact surface facing upwardly against a stream of molten metal entering a vessel containing the impact pad. A wall having a plurality of adjacent wall portions extends upwardly from the base. The impact surface contains at least one nonhorizontal facet extending inwardly from a wall portion; all lines in the facet extending perpendicularly to the wall portion have an inclination or declination with respect to the horizontal plane.
TUNDISH WITH FILTER MODULE
A Filter module of a filtering system for a tundish is provided that includes a filter unit provided with channels extending from a channel inlet to a channel outlet, and a wall module with a wall defining an opening extending over an opening height from the floor. A bypass passage is defined between the wall module and the filter module of largest width such that a metal melt can only flow from the inlet portion to the outlet portion by flowing either through the channels of the filter unit or through the bypass passage. The wall module includes a wall ledge having a width. The filter module further includes a filter ledge having a width and being offset vertically relative to the wall ledge to form therewith a baffle.
Fireproof ceramic impact pad
The invention relates to a fireproof (refractory) ceramic impact pad (also called impact pot, German: Pralltopf), which is typically installed along the bottom of a vessel treating metallurgical melts at an area where the metal melt, poured into the vessel, normally hits the vessel bottom. Insofar the impact pot has the task to protect the refractory bottom of the metallurgical vessel (to reduce its wear) and/or to distribute the metal melt within the vessel.
Impact pad, tundish and apparatus including the impact pad, and method of using same
A tundish impact pad, a tundish containing the same, and a method of using and assembly containing the impact pad and tundish are provided. The tundish impact pad features a base having a base surface with a conical impact surface area establishing an apex, a sidewall, and a top wall extending inwardly relative to the sidewall to terminate at an inner edge establishing a mouth opening spaced above and centered relative to the apex. The top wall includes a lip sloping radially inwardly and downwardly towards the conical impact surface.
TUNDISH AND CONTINUOUS CASTING METHOD USING SAME
A tundish including a weir between molten steel pouring portion and molten steel outlet port, the weir including wall portion and hood-shaped portion at upper end of wall portion surrounding molten steel pouring portion from all sides of molten steel pouring portion and extending upward from bottom of tundish, and hood-shaped portion facing molten steel pouring portion and protruding in horizontal direction, wherein weir includes one or more notches continuous from wall portion to hood-shaped portion, and includes refractory bottom surrounded by wall portion and including first porous portion, and also includes first gas inlet pipe connected to first porous portion within weir and within refractory including first porous portion, and tundish further includes bottom refractory provided with second porous portion and with second gas inlet pipe connected to second porous portion, at bottom of tundish between weir and molten steel outlet port.
Method of molten metal casting utilizing an impact pad in the tundish
A method of molten metal continuous casting utilizing an impact pad having a non-wavy spherical top in the tundish that is impacted by the stream of molten metal entering into the tundish wherein the flow of molten metal within the tundish is optimized to improve flow patterns, reduce dead zone areas, prevent splashing while filling the empty tundish, and eliminating the open red eye forming in the molten metal surface layer.
