In situ and real time quality control in additive manufacturing process

Use of a sensor read out system with at least one fiber optical sensor, which is connected via at least one signal line to a processing unit as part of an additive manufacturing setup, for in situ and real time quality control of a running additive manufacturing process. Acoustic emission is measured via the at least one fiber optical sensor in form of fibers with Bragg grating, fibre interferometer or Fabry-Perot structure, followed by a signal transfer and an analysis of the measured signals in the processing unit, estimation of the sintering or melting process quality due to correlation between sintering or melting quality and measured acoustic emission signals and subsequent adaption of ion and electron beams, microwave or laser sintering or melting parameters of a ion and electron beams, microwave or laser electronics of the additive manufacturing setup in real times via a feedback loop as a result of the measured acoustic emission signals after interpretation with an algorithmic framework in the processing unit.

Multi-chamber deposition equipment for solid free form fabrication

Provided is a chamber system for solid free form fabrication, the chamber system having a deposition chamber, a service chamber and one or more loading/unloading chambers. The chamber system allows for a more efficient and cost effective process to service the deposition apparatus, load holding substrates, and unload workpieces without requiring having to adjust the atmosphere in the deposition chamber.

The primary binder printer includes a print head configured to print a primary binder on the dispensed powder according to a desired pattern. The primary binder is printed on a surface of the powder that is opposite a surface on which the adjustable binder is printed. The primary binder is printed to match the pattern of the adjustable binder.

Device for in-situ fabrication process monitoring and feedback control of an electron beam additive manufacturing process

A High Energy Beam Processing (HEBP) system provides feedback signal monitoring and feedback control for the improvement of process repeatability and three-dimensional (3D) printed part quality. Signals reflecting process parameters and the quality of the fabricated parts are analyzed by monitoring feedback signals from artifact sources with a process controller which adjusts process parameters. In this manner, fabricated parts are produced more accurately and consistently from powder feedstock by compensating for process variation in response to feedback signals.

A 3D printing system comprising: a selective solidification module to: form a printed article by processing a build material; and form a printed container encompassing the printed article and a portion of unused build material about the printed article, the printed container defining a first port and a second port fluidly connected to the first port. The 3D printing system further comprises a connector to couple to the first port or second port of the printed container; and a pump fluidly connected to the connector to cause a fluid to flow through the printed container from the first port to the second port such that the printed article is cooled by the fluid flow.

POROSITY PREDICTION

Examples of methods for predicting porosity are described herein. In some examples, a method includes predicting a height map. In some examples, the height map is of material for metal printing. In some examples, the method includes predicting a porosity of a precursor object. In some examples, predicting the porosity of the precursor object is based on the predicted height map.
