Methods of fabricating structures, such as parts for use in nuclear power generation systems, are described herein. A representative method of fabricating a part for a nuclear reactor system includes coating a plurality of particles of a powder of a first material with a second material, and then pressing and/or heating the coated powder into a monolithic structure. The second material can be substantially solidly insoluble with the first material such that, after pressing and/or heating, the particles of the first material define grains of the monolithic structure and the second material substantially encapsulates the grains in the monolithic structure. The first material can be susceptible to corrosion by a select process, and the second material can be resistant to corrosion by the select process such that the bulk first material of the monolithic structure is resistant to corrosion by the select process.

The present disclosure provides a method for preparing a powder material and an application thereof. The preparation method includes: obtaining an initial alloy ribbon including a matrix phase and a dispersed particle phase by solidifying an alloy melt, and then removing the matrix phase in the initial alloy ribbon while retaining the dispersed particle phase, so as to obtain a powder material composed of original dispersed particle phase. The preparation method of the present disclosure is simple in process and can prepare multiple powder materials of nano-level, sub-micron-level and micro-level. The powder materials have good application prospects in the fields such as catalytic materials, powder metallurgy, composite materials, wave-absorbing materials, sterilization materials, metal injection molding, 3D printing and coating.

The alloyed steel powder for powder metallurgy contains Cu: 1.0 mass % or more and 8.0 mass % or less, Mo: more than 0.50 mass % and 2.00 mass % or less, and at least one selected from the group consisting of V: 0.05 mass % or more and 0.50 mass % or less, Nb: 0.02 mass % or more and 0.40 mass % or less, and Ti: 0.02 mass % or more and 0.40 mass % or less, with the balance consisting of Fe and inevitable impurities.

Methods of fabricating objects using additive manufacturing are provided. The methods create in situ dispersoids within the object. The methods are used with refractory alloy powders which are pretreated to increase the oxygen content to between 500 ppm and 3000 ppm or to increase the nitrogen content to between 250 ppm and 1500 ppm. The pretreated powders are then formed into layers in an environmentally controlled chamber of an additive manufacturing machine. The environmentally controlled chamber is adjusted to have between 500 ppm and 200 ppm oxygen. The layer of pretreated powder is then exposed to a transient moving energy source for melting and solidifying the layer; and creating in situ dispersoids in the layer.

A method for fabricating a functionally graded tungsten-copper composite (W—Cu FGC) may include the following steps. A binder alloy powder may be prepared that may include mechanically alloyed metal powders of nickel (Ni), copper (Cu), and manganese (Mn); the binder alloy powder may be mixed with a pure tungsten (W) powder to obtain a modified W powder; a plurality of W—Cu composite powders may be prepared by mixing the modified W powder with pure copper powder with different ratios; the plurality of W—Cu composite powders may then be stacked inside a die; the stacked plurality of W—Cu composite powders may be pressed inside the die to obtain a W—Cu compact; and the W—Cu compact may be sintered to obtain a W—Cu FGC.

A cermet contains hard phase particles containing Ti and a binding phase containing at least one of Ni and Co, and 70% or more (by number) of the hard phase particles have a cored structure containing a core and a peripheral portion around the core. The core is composed mainly of at least one of Ti carbide, Ti nitride, and Ti carbonitride, and the peripheral portion is composed mainly of a Ti composite compound containing Ti and at least one selected from W, Mo, Ta, Nb, and Cr. The core has an average particle size α, the peripheral portion has an average particle size β, and α and β satisfy 1.1≦β/α≦1.7.

A method to achieve full densification and grain size control for sintering metal materials, wherein raw material powder is deagglomerated to obtain deagglomerated powder with dispersion. The deagglomerated powder is granulated by spray granulation. The granulated particles are processed by high-pressure die pressing and cold isostatic pressing. The powder compact is sintered by two-step pressureless sintering. The first step is to heat up the powder compact to a higher temperature and hold for a short time to obtain 75-85% theoretical density; the second step is to cool down powder compact to a lower temperature and hold for a long time. The two-step sintering can decrease the sintering temperature, so that the powder compact can be densified at a lower temperature. Thus, the obtained refractory metal product is densified, with ultrafine grains, uniform grain size distribution, and outstanding mechanical properties.
