Selection apparatus
A numerical control apparatus that is a selection apparatus causes, when an automatic lathe that fabricates a workpiece from a bar is unable to fabricate a workpiece that is a fabrication target from a remaining material that is a remaining part of the bar being machined, the automatic lathe to select another workpiece that the automatic lathe is able to fabricate from the remaining material. The numerical control apparatus includes a selection unit to select, when there are a plurality of other workpieces that are able to be fabricated from the remaining material, a workpiece to be fabricated on the basis of a length of the remaining material and priority.
Superhydrophobic and superoleophobic nanosurfaces
Devices, systems and techniques are described for producing and implementing articles and materials having nanoscale and microscale structures that exhibit superhydrophobic, superoleophobic or omniphobic surface properties and other enhanced properties. In one aspect, a surface nanostructure can be formed by adding a silicon-containing buffer layer such as silicon, silicon oxide or silicon nitride layer, followed by metal film deposition and heating to convert the metal film into balled-up, discrete islands to form an etch mask. The buffer layer can be etched using the etch mask to create an array of pillar structures underneath the etch mask, in which the pillar structures have a shape that includes cylinders, negatively tapered rods, or cones and are vertically aligned. In another aspect, a method of fabricating microscale or nanoscale polymer or metal structures on a substrate is made by photolithography and/or nano imprinting lithography.
Sintered formed body and manufacturing method thereof, article having sintered formed body, sintered formed body material, and pre-sintering formed body and manufacturing method thereof
A sintered formed body containing a glass in which undesired coloring in a blackish color, incomplete sintering, a lack of strength, and formation of bubbles are suppressed, and an article provided with the same are provided. Provided are a sintered formed body and an article provided with the same, the sintered formed body consisting of a sintered body containing a glass, and having a thick part with a thickness of 60 m or more, in which a carbon content from a position of a surface of the thick part to a position at a depth of at least 30 m from the surface of the thick part is 0.7 to 15 mass ppm.
Carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite and method of manufacturing the same
A plate-shaped carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite has a longitudinal length-to-widthwise length ratio of more than 1. The carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite is such that at least two layers that are a first carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer in which carbon fibers are placed in the carbonaceous matrix and are oriented in the longitudinal direction and a second carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer different in the arrangement of the carbon fibers from the first carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer are stacked, the first carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer forms an outermost layer of at least one plate surface, the thickness thereof is 70% or more of the thickness of the carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite, and the longitudinal bending elastic modulus is 150 GPa or more. The first carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer in which the carbon fibers are aligned in the longitudinal direction is placed only on an outermost layer of one or both of plate surfaces and another site is a carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer different in the arrangement of the carbon fibers from the first carbon fiber-reinforced carbon composite layer; hence, the longitudinal bending elastic modulus is significantly increased and warping, peeling, or cracking during usage and interlayer delamination due to gases produced during manufacture are suppressed.

SELECTING DEVICE, SELECTING METHOD, AND PROGRAM
A selecting device causes a machine tool, which machines a workpiece from a bar material, to select another workpiece that the machine tool can machine from a leftover material, which is a remaining part of the bar material being machined, when a workpiece to be machined is not machinable from the leftover material. The selecting device includes: a selecting unit that refers to mountable tool data indicating a tool that can be mounted on a mount position of the machine tool, and causes the machine tool to select another workpiece that is machinable by the tool that can be mounted on the machine tool, in selecting another workpiece to be machined by the machine tool from the leftover material.

WORKPIECE SUPPORT AND MACHINE TOOL
A workpiece support includes a rotating shaft configured to support a workpiece at a leading end portion, a second support supporting the rotating shaft rotatably about a first axis and configured to move the rotating shaft along the first axis, a first support provided between the tool and the second support along the first axis and including a through hole into which a guide bushing unit is configured to be inserted and into which the leading end portion of the rotating shaft is configured to be inserted, and an attachment provided in contact with an outer surface of the leading end portion of the rotating shaft. The guide bushing unit is configured to support the workpiece when the guide bushing unit is in the through hole. At least a part of the attachment is displaceable in a direction away from the first axis.
Machine for processing optical workpieces, in particular plastic spectacle lenses
The invention relates to a machine for processing plastic workpieces. A machine housing surrounds a working chamber located between a workpiece spindle for rotationally driving the workpieces about a workpiece axis of rotation and a fast tool servo for producing an oscillating feeding movement of a rotary tool in the direction of the workpieces. The workpiece spindle is provided with a carriage which can be driven and is guided on at least two guide surfaces of a guiding arrangement in order to produce a relative advancing movement between the workpiece and the rotary tool. The advancing movement runs transversely with respect to the feeding movement and defining therewith a processing plane in which during processing the rotary tool engages with the workpiece. The guiding arrangement is mounted on the machine housing such that the processing plane extends between the two guide surfaces.
