A machining method, for a CNC-lathe for forming a predefined thread in a work piece, includes the steps of: rotating the metal work piece around a rotational axis thereof; moving a threading tool along a longitudinal direction through a set of passes, wherein the longitudinal direction is parallel/coinciding to the rotational axis; oscillating the threading tool in a radial direction during a first pass and first frequency, the threading tool moving between a first radial distance (D1) and a second radial distance (D2), (D1) being greater than (D2); oscillating the threading tool in a radial direction during a second pass and second frequency, the threading tool moving between a third radial distance (D3) and a fourth radial distance (D4), (D3) being greater than (D4) and smaller (D1), and (D4) being smaller than (D2); and during a last pass moving the tool without oscillation in the radial direction.

Provided is a machine tool control device that can realize a desired scrap length while suppressing deterioration in machining accuracy. This control device 1 is for a machine tool which performs machining while causing a tool and a workpiece to oscillate relative to each other, the control device 1 being provided with: an oscillation command generation unit 13 for generating an oscillation command on the basis of an oscillation condition; an oscillation command correction unit 14 for correcting the oscillation command so that main-axis phases in given oscillation phases are not identical to each other; and a position/speed control unit 18 for causing the tool and the workpiece to oscillate relative to each other on the basis of a superposition command generated by superposing the oscillation command corrected by the oscillation command correction unit 14 on a movement command.

A machine forms threads on a workpiece by relatively feeding the workpiece and a cutting tool in a feeding direction while relatively rotating the workpiece and the cutting tool, and by performing a helical cutting work multiple times while carrying out relative reciprocal vibration of the workpiece and the cutting tool in a radial direction of the workpiece. The machine tool or a control device of the machine tool includes a vibration setting unit to set a pattern of vibration during each cutting work accompanied by the reciprocal vibration so that a cut portion of one cutting work partially includes a portion that has been cut in another cutting work. The machine tool and the control device prevent a long, continuous chip from becoming entangled with a workpiece or a cutting tool in the process of forming threads on the workpiece.

In a machine tool and a control apparatus thereof, a repetitive movement unit is configured so that the cutting tool performs one repetitive movement with respect to multiple relative rotations between the workpiece and the cutting tool and so that a rotation angle of the relative rotation between the workpiece and the cutting tool during relative movement at a second speed is smaller than a rotation angle of the relative rotation during relative movement at a first speed in one repetitive movement. This configuration limits degradation of machining efficiency when the cutting tool machines the workpiece by performing one repetitive movement with respect to multiple relative rotations between the workpiece and the cutting tool.

In a machine tool and a control apparatus thereof, a repetitive movement unit is configured so that the cutting tool performs one repetitive movement with respect to multiple relative rotations between the workpiece and the cutting tool and so that a rotation angle of the relative rotation between the workpiece and the cutting tool during relative movement at a second speed is smaller than a rotation angle of the relative rotation during relative movement at a first speed in one repetitive movement. This configuration limits degradation of machining efficiency when the cutting tool machines the workpiece by performing one repetitive movement with respect to multiple relative rotations between the workpiece and the cutting tool.

To provide a control device for a machine tool capable of performing thread cutting while reducing the load on the machine tool from the oscillating operation, without extending the cycle time, and capable of reliably shredding chips in a case of performing the non-oscillating operation in the present pass after the oscillating operation in the previous pass. A control device for a machine tool includes: an oscillating operation execution determination unit that determines whether to execute an oscillating operation that causes the cutting tool to oscillate in the radial direction of the workpiece; an oscillation command generation unit that generates an oscillation command of the oscillating operation based on a determination result; a control unit that superimposes the oscillation command on a position command of the feed axis to generate a drive command. The oscillating operation execution determination unit determines to intermittently execute the oscillating operation, and the oscillation command generation unit generates an oscillation command so that a non-oscillating cutting portion of a present pass includes a portion at which oscillating cutting was performed in a previous pass, or so that an oscillating cutting portion of the present pass includes a portion at which non-oscillating cutting was performed in the previous pass.
