A four-in-one mattress management system and method is disclosed for facilitating various tasks associated with beds of all sizes including making beds; rotating mattresses; holding a bed skirt in place while a mattress is rotated; installing or removing and re-installing a mattress, for example, in order to replace a bed skirt. The system includes an active mode and a passive mode. In an active mode, all four tasks mentioned above can be performed. A passive mode selectable. In a passive mode, the mattress can be easily rotated in a horizontal plane. During that mode, the system holds down the bed skirt while the mattress is being rotated. In an active mode, the present invention facilitates bed making and thus increases the efficiency of the housekeeping staff leaving more time for the housekeeping staff to attend to the rest of the room. The active mode also facilitates installation and replacement of bed skirts.

The system may also include an air inlet nozzle in fluid communication with the expandable air volume. The expandable air volume may lift the mattress with respect to the box spring or platform under the influence of an external air supply in fluid communication with the air inlet nozzle such that the mattress may be rotated with respect to the box spring or platform.

An adjustable base is provided that includes a fixed frame and an articulating frame connected to the fixed frame. The articulating frame includes an upper body frame pivotally connected to the upper section of the fixed frame, a seat frame pivotally connected to the upper body frame and movable along a central section of the fixed frame, and a leg frame pivotally connected to the fixed frame. An actuator is further included and has a first end connected to the seat frame adjacent to the leg frame and a second end that is connected to a linkage attached to the articulating frame. Upon activation of the actuator, the upper body frame is articulated upward and the seat frame moves linearly along the central section of the fixed frame toward the upper section of the fixed frame. Systems and methods for controlling an adjustable base assembly are further provided.

In another embodiment, the levitation device is configured to facilitate making a bed which allows sheets and blankets to be tucked between the mattress and the box spring without the need to lift the mattress. In a third embodiment, the levitation device functions as a hybrid device and can be used for making a bed or rotating a mattress.
