CUTTING INSERT WITH INTERNAL COOLING, MOLD AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURE THEREOF
A cutting insert is provided, comprising a top surface, a bottom surface, a plurality of side surfaces spanning therebetween, and a cutting edge formed at an intersection of the side surface and a forwardly-disposed portion of the top the surface. It further comprises a cooling cavity projecting into the insert, a top end thereof being disposed further forwardly than an open bottom end thereof. The cooling cavity defines at least one molding axis such that a solid element having the shape of the cooling cavity and completely inserted therein may be retracted intact therefrom along a linear path parallel to the molding axis. A circumscribing portion is formed on the side surfaces encircling the cutting insert. The circumscribing portion is formed parallel to the molding axis and has a non-zero height along its entire extent. The cutting insert does not extend beyond the circumscribing portion.
Cutting Insert
Disclosed is a cutting insert having a generally polygonal shaped primary body including a primary body base connected to an opposing, generally parallel and similarly-shaped body face through a plurality of flank portions extending there between. The Cutting insert further includes at least one cutting protrusion merging therewith and extending away there from the primary body. The at least one cutting protrusion includes a protrusion base which is generally coplanar and merges with the primary body base. The at least one cutting protrusion further includes a rake face in a direction opposite to the protrusion base, and a protruding flank extending there between the protrusion base and the rake face. The at least one cutting protrusion further includes a tip flat extending between a rake front at a protrusion tip towards a rake root portion, adjacent the primary body.
Turning insert for metal cutting
A turning insert includes a top surface, an opposite bottom surface, and a reference plane therebetween. A center axis intersects the top and bottom surfaces and a side surface connects the top and bottom surfaces. A circular cutting edge is adjacent the top surface and the side surface. The top surface includes a set of first protrusions, which are elongated in a direction parallel to the adjacent cutting edge. A greatest distance from the reference plane to the first protrusions is greater than a distance from the reference plane to the cutting edge. The bottom surface has a set of radial grooves and includes a set of flat surfaces. The flat surfaces extend in a plane parallel to the reference plane, wherein in a top view each first protrusion is symmetrical in relation to a line extending between the center axis and a mid-point of the first protrusion.
Cutting insert with internal cooling
A cutting element (50) having a front face (52T), an opposite rear face (52B) and at least one side (52S) face extending therebetween, and comprising a cooling cavity (60) defined by a cavity surface. The cutting element (50) comprises at least one shell-like cutting zone defined by an external surface (54, 56, 58) and an internal surface. The external surface (54, 56, 58) is constituted by a cutting edge (54) defined at the intersection between the front face (52T) and the at least one side face (52S) and corresponding rake (56) and relief (58) surfaces constituted by portions of the front face (52T) and at least one side face (52S) respectively. The internal surface is constituted by a portion of the cavity surface (60), wherein the maximal distance between the cavity surface (60) and the external surface (54, 56, 58) at the cutting zone is considerably smaller than the distance between the front face (52T) and the opposite rear face (52B). The cooling cavity (60) is configured for receiving therein a cooling fluid for cooling the inner surface and thereby withdrawing heat from the cutting edge (54).
Cutting tool assembly and shank
A cutting tool assembly includes a shank, a shim, a cutting insert, a clamping lever and a set screw. The shank has an insert pocket with a base wall, a lever receiving portion and a screw hole. The shim is disposed on the base wall of the insert pocket and has a shim bore. The cutting insert is disposed on the upper surface of the shim and has an insert bore. The clamping lever is received in the lever receiving portion and clamps the cutting insert to the insert pocket. The clamping lever has first and second extension portions. The set screw is fastened to the screw hole and has a screw head, a threaded portion and an engaging groove. The engaging groove of the set screw engages the second extension portion. The shim includes an avoiding portion for avoiding an interference with the screw head.
Tool holder for tangential cutting insert
In the case of a tool holder having a receptacle for a cutting insert, in particular a tangential cutting insert having eight lips, having a lateral bearing surface, a rear bearing surface and a bottom surface, the bottom surface is quadrangular in plan view and has a raised supporting region which has two supporting surfaces, positioned obliquely with respect to one another, for the cutting insert.
