The shank and the cutting portion are thermally connected through high frequency oscillation heating method, and the cutting portion is secured on the first connecting portion of the shank. An accommodating channel axially penetrates through a center portion of the first end of the shank and extends toward the second end, and the sensor is installed in the accommodating channel so as to be positioned close to the cutting portion, thereby achieving the direct and accurate sensing.

A set of cutting inserts includes a stem portion, a plurality of branch portions attached to and extending from the stem portion, and at least one cutting insert attached to each of the plurality of branch portions. The stem portion has a longitudinal axis extending between a top end of the stem portion and a bottom end of the stem portion and at least one of the top end of the stem portion is disposed along the longitudinal axis above uppermost portions of each cutting insert, and the bottom end of the stem portion is disposed along the longitudinal axis below lowermost portions of each cutting insert. Provided are a cemented carbide having excellent plastic deformation resistance and a cutting tool in which the cemented carbide is used as a substrate. A cemented carbide includes a hard phase containing tungsten carbide particles and a binder phase containing, as a main component, an iron-group element, wherein the formula B/A≤0.05 is satisfied, where A represents the number of the tungsten carbide particles, and B represents the number of tungsten carbide particles whose number of contact points with other tungsten carbide particles is 1 or less. Preferably, the iron-group element includes cobalt, and the cobalt content in the cemented carbide is 8% by mass or more. Preferably, the tungsten carbide particles have an average particle diameter of 3 μm or more.
