20210299764 · 2021-09-30 · ·

A tool bit includes a body having an internal cavity extending along a longitudinal axis between a first distal end and a second distal end. A plurality of channels of the body extend transverse from the internal cavity of the body. The first distal end includes an inlet in fluid communication with the internal cavity and the plurality of channels. The body includes an outer surface having a plurality of outlets spaced from the second distal end. Each one of the plurality of outlets is in fluid communication with a corresponding one of the plurality of channels such that a fluid is deliverable into the body via the inlet and out of the body via the plurality of outlets. A tooling assembly for applying a fluid to a surface includes a workpiece and the tool bit as discussed above which is movable relative to the workpiece.

CUTTING TOOL HAVING REPLACEABLE CUTTING HEAD AND METHOD OF SECURING A REPLACEABLE CUTTING HEAD

A rotary cutting tool includes a tool shank, a replaceable cutting head mounted on the tool shank, a coupling pin, and an actuation member. In one embodiment, the coupling pin has a cylindrical portion with a reduced-diameter portion defined by a pair of angled side walls separated by a bottom surface for cooperating with a non-threaded portion at one end of the actuation member. In another embodiment, the coupling pin has a cylindrical portion with a notch with a pair of side walls for cooperating with a frustoconical member at one end of the actuation member. When assembled, a pair of V-shaped contact surfaces on the cutting head engage a pair of oppositely facing V-shaped contact surfaces on the tool shank to provide stability against the momentum created by cutting forces in two different directions and securely hold the cutting head in place during machining operations.

ACCESSORY TOOL

An accessory tool includes an adapter end, and a shank coupled to the adapter end and including a first length. The shank includes a tool engagement portion, and a first reduced portion disposed between the tool engagement portion and the adapter end. The first reduced portion has a second length. The shank additionally includes a second reduced portion formed in the tool engagement portion between the first reduced portion and an end of the shank. The second length is 2.5% to 15% of a total length of the accessory tool.

CUTTING SECTION FOR A DRILL BIT

A cutting section (11) which is connectable to a drill shaft section via a releasable connecting device. The cutting section includes a first open tubular element (14) which is in the form of a first hollow cylinder, a second closed tubular element (15) which is in the form of a second hollow cylinder, and one or more drill segments (16) which are connected to the first open tubular element (14) and to the second closed tubular element (15).

DRILLING TOOL ASSEMBLY INCLUDING A STEP DRILL BIT
20210197295 · 2021-07-01 ·

A drilling tool includes a step drill bit and an arbor assembly. The arbor assembly includes a shank having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and a longitudinal axis extending through the first and second ends. The first end of the shank is removably coupled to the step drill bit, and the second end of the shank is configured to be coupled to a power tool. The arbor assembly includes a sleeve moveable along the shank parallel to the longitudinal axis, and a ball bearing disposed on the sleeve and moveable with the sleeve. The ball bearing engages the step drill bit to releasably secure the step drill bit to the shank. When the sleeve moves toward the second end of the shank, the ball bearing moves radially inward and disengages the step drill bit, allowing removal of the step drill bit from the shank.

REPLACEABLE CUTTING HEAD HAVING BACK-TAPERED CONICAL EXTERNAL THREAD AND ROTARY CUTTING TOOL

A rotary cutting tool includes a replaceable cutting head and a tool holder. The replaceable cutting head includes a forward cutting portion and a rearward mounting portion. The mounting portion includes a male coupling member that includes a back-tapered conical external thread. The tool holder includes a female coupling member that includes an internal thread. When the rotary cutting tool is in a locked position, the external thread is threadingly engaged with the internal thread.

ROTARY CUTTING TOOL WITH TUNABLE VIBRATION ABSORBER ASSEMBLY FOR SUPPRESSING TORSIONAL VIBRATION

A rotary cutting tool includes a tool body including a chip flute portion having a plurality of helical chip flutes separated by lobes. In one aspect, a tunable vibration absorber assembly is disposed within a cavity formed in the chip flute portion. In another aspect, the tunable vibration absorber assembly is disposed within a cavity of a replaceable cutting head. In each aspect, the tunable vibration absorber assembly includes at least two tunable absorber masses, a resilient material between the one or more absorber masses and the cavity, and one or more connecting members for preventing relative angular displacement of the one or more tunable absorber masses. The at least two tunable absorber masses are suspended only by the resilient material, thereby enabling the tunable vibration absorber assembly to be tuned to a desired frequency for suppressing torsional vibration of the rotary cutting tool during a cutting operation.

Rotary cutting tool with internal coolant passage

A rotary cutting tool includes a replaceable cutting insert, a pocket portion for holding the cutting insert, and a chip flute portion having a plurality of helical flutes. An internal coolant passage is formed in the chip flute portion and has both a twisted geometry and a “see-through” central portion. The internal coolant passage is polygonal in cross-sectional shape having a number of cusps equal to the number of flutes. The internal coolant passage greatly increases coolant flow area, while maintaining the stiffness and rigidity of the cutting tool. A method includes forming the internal coolant passage using additive manufacturing such that the internal coolant passage has a “see-through” central portion and a twisted geometry.

Rotary cutting tool

A rotary cutting tool, in particular a drill, is described, which comprises a shank and an exchangeable cutting tip (14). For this purpose, a locking geometry having an undercut of a first type and a torque transmission geometry is provided on the shank. A locking projection having a torque transmission counter-geometry is provided on the cutting tip, wherein, in a mounted state, the locking projection engages in the undercut of the first type and the torque transmission counter-geometry abuts the torque transmission geometry. The rotary cutting tool further comprises a securing unit, which holds the cutting tip on the shank.
