A cutting insert for drilling includes an upper surface, a lower surface formed on an opposite side of the upper surface, a side surface connecting the upper surface and the lower surface; a cutting edge formed at an intersection of the upper surface and the side surface, and a ridge portion formed to protrude upward from the upper surface to facilitate chip control. The ridge portion includes a ridge body spaced apart from the cutting edge and disposed at a central portion of the cutting insert for drilling; and a ridge extension portion extending from a vicinity of a corner of the ridge body in a direction parallel to the cutting edge.

Drill body and drill

A drill body and a drill are disclosed. The drill body has a rotational axis and comprises a central chip flute extending along a periphery of the drill body. A central chip flute cross-section has a centre line extending in a plane extending perpendicularly to the rotational axis, and through the rotational axis. The central chip flute cross-section has a depth, as seen along the centre line, and a width as seen perpendicularly to the centre line. The central chip flute cross-section has a maximum depth Dp within a range of Dp=0.75×D/2 to Dp=0.90×D/2, and a maximum width W within a range of W=0.75×D/2 to W=0.90×D/2, and wherein the maximum width W extends symmetrically about the centre line.

Machining system and cutting insert and methods

There is provided a machining assembly and cutting insert for machining metal or like workpieces, wherein the cutting insert body has a cutting end. The cutting end comprises at least one cutting edge and at least one cutting lip formed adjacent the at least one cutting edge. The at least one cutting lip includes at least one cutting protrusion and associated chip cutting edge to split the chip formed by the at least one cutting edge, for producing chips during machining which are of a width that is sufficiently reduced to allow proper evacuation or removal.

Drill, drilling unit, and drilling method

According to one implementation, a drill includes: a drill includes: a body without a back taper; and a cutting edge part integrated with the body. The body has a flow path of a cutting oil inside. The cuffing edge part has a first supply port that supplies the cutting oil toward a workpiece, The body has at least one second supply port that supplies the cutting oil to a clearance formed between a bush for positioning and the body. The bush is used by being inserted in the body.

Indexable drilling inserts

Drilling tool systems including a drilling body and a drilling inserts are disclosed. The drilling inserts include four indexable cutting edges. The four cutting edges may each comprise a plurality of cutting edge segments and a wiper edge. The plurality of cutting edge segments and the wiper edge are provided at distinct angles to provide effective chip breaking and a stronger cutting edge at the drilling insert corners. Furthermore, the side surfaces of the drilling inserts allow the drilling insert to be more stably supported in a pocket of the drilling body. The drilling inserts may be used in a peripheral pocket of a drilling body.

Side-lock modular drill with spring-assisted bump-off

A rotary cutting tool with a shank and an interchangeable cutting tip, wherein the shank includes a pocket which receives the interchangeable cutting tip via an interference fit. The pocket includes two centering wall portions which, when viewed along a central longitudinal axis, are oriented at a first angle with respect to one another, the first angle being greater than zero. The interchangeable cutting tip is axially displaceable between: an initial position, assumed upon being received in the pocket of the shank; a clamped position, wherein the interchangeable cutting tip is fixedly held with respect to the shank; and a bump-off position, wherein the interchangeable cutting tip is not fixedly held. A holding element holds the interchangeable cutting tip in the clamped position, and a spring assembly which displaces the interchangeable cutting tip between the clamped position and the bump-off position. Other variants and embodiments are broadly contemplated herein.
