A drilling system and methods provide stability and cutting performance to produce holes having desired straightness and other characteristics. The system may include a cutting head provided with a central cutting system and first and second side cutting inserts. The tool provides a major diameter with the OD cutting margins on the replaceable side inserts, as well as possibly cutting margins on the center cutting member. Adjustment mechanisms may be provided to adjust the center cutting member and/side cutting inserts.
HOLE MACHINING TOOL AND GUIDE PAD ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM THEREFOR
A hole machining tool includes an outwardly facing pad pocket and a guide pad secured therein. The pad pocket includes a pocket base surface and a wedge member which includes opposite wedge top and bottom surfaces which forming an acute wedge angle therebetween. The wedge bottom surface abuts the pocket base surface and the guide pad abuts the wedge top surface. The machining tool further includes an adjustment screw which abuts the wedge member and configured to move the wedge member along the pocket base surface. The machining tool further includes a clamping member which passes through a wedge opening in the wedge member and configured to secure the guide pad and the wedge member in the pad pocket.
CUTTING TOOL REPLACEMENT MEMBER AND CUTTING TOOL BODY
A cutting tool replacement member including: a lower surface which serves as a seating surface; an upper surface opposed to the lower surface; and a side surface connected to the upper surface and the lower surface. In a top view, the upper surface includes, in an intersection between the upper surface and the side surface, a reference side edge and an inclined side edge inclined relative to the reference side edge. The side surface includes a first side surface part connected to the reference side edge of the upper surface, and a second side surface part connected to the inclined side edge of the upper surface. At least one of the first side surface part and the second side surface part is provided with an overhanging part that, in a top view, protrudes outwardly with respect to the reference side edge or the inclined side edge.
Support pad for a drill head and method for designing and manufacturing a support pad
A deep hole drill head support pad whose edge chamfers are formed in a continuous grinding operation so that there are no discontinuities in the angled side surface leading up to the outer surface thereof. A method of manufacturing the support pad includes generating a virtual guide metric including a curved travel path for a grinding surface around a support pad blank, and a plurality of control surfaces intersecting with the curved path at separate locations along its length, each control surface defining an angle of orientation of the grinding surface. A CNC grinding machine can interpret the virtual guide metric to change the angle of orientation of a grinding surface relative to a support pad blank as it moves between adjacent control surfaces in a continuous manner.
Guide pad and cutter head for a cutting tool
A guide pad for a cutting tool includes a sliding surface, which is convexly curved in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the guide pad. A channel-shaped recess is formed in the sliding surface that extends in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the guide pad and terminates before reaching an end of the sliding surface at an end of the guide pad.

An indexable guide plate and an associated drilling tool are described in which the indexable guide plates have very small dimensions but, despite these small dimensions, have a large number of guide surfaces. As a result, the indexable guide plate according to the invention can be used for a long time, even with drilling tools having a small drilling diameter.

The invention relates to a single-lip deep hole drill comprising a drill head, wherein the drill head has a drill diameter, a blade and a channel for chip removal, wherein the blade extends outwards from a rotational axis (23) up to the perimeter of the drill head, wherein the blade has a cutting surface (33) and wherein the channel is bordered by a chip forming surface (15), wherein the chip forming surface (15) has two sections (19, 21) such that a first section (19) of the chip forming surface (15) extends in the radial direction from the rotational axis (23) up to a first diameter, a second section (21) of the chip forming surface (15) connects to the first section (19) in the radial direction, the first section (19) is positioned above the cutting surface (33), and the second section (21) is positioned nearer to the cutting surface (33) than the first section (19). Guide pad and a cutter head for a cutting tool
A guide pad for a cutting tool is formed with at least one sliding surface, which is convexly curved in a plane perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the guide pad. Each sliding surface includes two convexly curved sliding sub-surfaces separated by a fluid conveying formation having a longitudinal extension in a direction in parallel to the longitudinal axis. The fluid conveying formation is planar or has a convexly curved shape in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal axis having a larger radius of curvature than the radius of the sliding surface.
