The rail shoe assembly also includes an adjustable bar coupled to and slideable relative to the base. The adjustable bar has a bottom edge for engagement with the rail. The adjustable bar defines a plurality of position indicators and the base defines a plurality of mounting chambers. At least one of the plurality of position indicators and at least one of the plurality of mounting chambers are alignable at a predetermined position for positioning said base relative to the rail such that the drill and cutter are positioned relative to the rail.

A toolholder includes a cutting tool mounted to a head attached to a collar at a first end of the toolholder. A shank is located at a second, opposite end of the toolholder. A central cavity extends inwardly from the first end toward the shank. A passive vibration absorber assembly is disposed within the central cavity. The passive vibration absorber assembly includes an absorber body and an absorber cap attached to the absorber body. The absorber body has a first end, a second end opposite the first end, and one or more cavities formed in the second end. The one or more cavities of the absorber body are partially of wholly filled with metal or ceramic particles or powders to provide particle damping for suppressing vibration of the toolholder.

TOOLHOLDER WITH VISCOUS FLUID INERTIAL MASS DAMPER

A toolholder includes a cutting tool mounted to a head attached to a collar at a first end of the toolholder. A shank is located at a second, opposite end of the toolholder. A central cavity extends inwardly from the first end toward the shank. A viscous fluid inertia mass damper is disposed within the central cavity. The viscous fluid inertia mass damper includes an absorber body having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, a fluid reservoir formed in the damper body for containing a viscous fluid, and a plurality of apertures formed in the damper body for allowing the viscous fluid to flow from the fluid reservoir and through the apertures to suppress vibration of the toolholder. A method for suppressing vibrations in a toolholder is also disclosed.

A rotating machining device for machining a work piece includes a support housing adapted for mounting on the work piece and a headstock rotatably mounted on the support housing about an axis. The headstock including an internal gear. A drive module is arranged to drive rotation of the headstock about the axis and at least one gear connection is formed between the internal gear and the drive module. The at least one gear connection is positioned radially inside of an outer diameter of the support housing to protect an operator from a pinch point associated with the at least one gear connection.

A tuned or tunable boring tool includes a boring bar defining an elongated cavity therein. A distal end of the boring bar is configured to support a tool or cutting insert. The boring tool further includes a dynamic vibration absorber inserted within the elongated cavity of the boring bar. The dynamic vibration absorber includes a mass that vibrates in conjunction with vibration of the boring bar. The mass has a proximal end and a distal end. The dynamic vibration absorber further includes at least one resilient proximal support positioned adjacent to and supporting the proximal end of the mass and at least one distal resilient support positioned adjacent to and supporting the distal end of the mass. The at least one proximal support and at least one distal support have a different stiffness.

The tool holder includes a mounting portion and a projected portion, which are connected. The mounting portion has a flat surface extending in an interface plane and the projected portion has a recess for holding the parting and grooving tool. The parting and grooving tool includes a cutting portion and a clamping portion. The cutting portion includes a cutting edge and the clamping portion includes a rear end surface. The parting and grooving tool is mountable in the recess such that a distance from the interface plane to the rear end surface of the parting and grooving tool is greater than a distance from the interface plane to the cutting portion of the parting and grooving tool.

A self-adjusting pocket hole jig system is presented having a base, an upright assembly operably connected to the base, a clamping assembly, operably connected to the upright assembly, a handle operably connected to the clamping assembly, and a drill guide assembly operably connected to the clamping assembly. The drill guide assembly is configured and arranged to move along the upright assembly between an unclamped position and a clamped position in response to movement of the handle. Movement of the handle simultaneously adjusts the height of the drill guide assembly as well as facilitates clamping of the drill guide assembly for workpieces of various thicknesses.

The chuck jaw (10.1, 10.2, 10.3) further includes at least one holding element (18) operatively associated with the jaw body (16) and adapted to engage the workpiece (12). The at least one holding element (18) is moveable between (i) a release condition in which the holding element (18) is released from the workpiece (12), and (ii) an engaged position in which the holding element (18) engages a surface of the workpiece. The chuck jaw (10.1, 10.2, 10.3) further includes a clamping assembly (20) operatively adapted to secure the at least one holding element (18) in the engaged position.
