Clamp for tool holder

A clamp for a tool holder is disclosed. The clamping tool holder includes a body having an insert-receiving pocket and a threaded clamp-receiving bore with a coolant opening for receiving pressurized coolant from a coolant source. A clamp includes a threaded aperture extending from a top surface to a bottom surface and coolant passages in fluid communication with a coolant header. A clamp screw is threaded into the threaded aperture of the clamp. The clamp screw includes a plurality of coolant passages in fluid communication with the coolant opening of the body, and at least one coolant channel in fluid communication with the coolant passage. Coolant from the coolant source enters the coolant opening of the body, travels into the clamp screw, travels into each coolant passage of the clamp, and then exits the clamp in a direction toward a cutting insert-workpiece interface.

Quick-change clamping unit for toolholder and method of using same

A clamping unit includes a drawbar having an interior surface defining a fluid transport channel. A fluid transport pipe is at least partially disposed within the interior of the drawbar and is in fluid communication with a fluid transport adapter and a fluid transport channel to enable high pressure fluid to be provided directly to a toolholder. The clamping unit further comprises at least one spring-like member positioned around the outer surface of the drawbar to provide a biasing force against an end plate. The drawbar is movable along a longitudinal axis between a locked position and a tool release position by applying and not applying hydraulic pressure against the end plate, thereby providing a quick-change feature of the invention.

A pipe lathe includes a shaft; a cutting head supported on the shaft for movement with the shaft; a mandrel positionable on an outboard end of the shaft for supporting the shaft along a machining axis; and a first external pipe clamp and a second external pipe clamp, the first and the second external pipe clamps supported for external pipe engagement substantially concentrically about the machining axis. Multiple spaced apart engagement sites provided by the mandrel within the pipe and the external pipe clamps on an outer surface of the pipe support the pipe in a linear and centered position for machining by the cutting head, even when the pipe is non-linear, flexible and possibly with a cross section that is non-circular.

A clamping assembly includes a base member having an internal bore, a lock rod within the internal bore of the base member and moveable between an unlocked position and a locked position, the lock rod including a lock rod cam surface and a first bearing, a crank wheel having an axis of rotation and a third bearing, and a linkage including a second bearing comprising an elongated cavity formed in an outer surface, a fourth bearing and a cam surface at one end thereof.

Clamping Device and Machining Unit Comprising Such a Clamping Device

A clamping device for clamping a workpiece or a tool or, more specifically, a tool holding fixture in a machine part of a machine tool includes a tension rod slidably mounted within the machine part; a clamping set movable by the tension rod between clamped and released positions; a tension spring dedicated to the tension rod so as to generate the pull-in force of the clamping set; and a release mechanism, by which the clamping set can be moved against the force of the tension spring into the released position by the tension rod. To make possible effective clamping at optimum force, the tension spring is clamped between first and second rod parts of the tension rod. The second rod part can move relative to the first rod part, and, as the clamping set moves into the released position, is compressed on both ends by the release mechanism by moving the two rod parts in opposite directions.

A clamping tool holder includes a tool holder body and a clamp for clamping a cutting insert. The clamp causes the cutting insert to press against the bottom and the side walls of an insert-receiving pocket of the tool holder body. The tool holder body has an inclined surface sloping inward in a direction away from the insert-receiving pocket. The clamp has an inclined surface that acts as a ramp with the inclined surface of the tool holder body. When a clamp screw is tightened, a nub of the clamp engages an inside rearward surface of a mounting bore of the insert with face contact and a contact pad engages a top surface of the cutting insert. As a result, the clamp exerts a force downward and rearward force on the insert. In one aspect, the nub has a polygonal cross-sectional shape.
