Vacuum drilling system and methods

A vacuum drilling system and methods is provided that may utilize both a through tool coolant supply as well as a central vacuum extraction system. The system may include a cutting head provided on a hollow tube and a vacuum source to apply vacuum pressure to the area of the cutting head via one or more chip inlets arranged proximate to the cutting head. Sealed coolant containment channels supply coolant to the area of the cutting head.

Tool accommodating replaceable blade

A cutting tool utilizing a replaceable blade has a body which defines a blade-accepting pocket having an interior within which the body of the blade is nestingly accepted when inserted within the pocket and for releasable securement of the blade within the blade-accepting pocket. Furthermore, the blade-accepting pocket includes an abutment surface against which a surface of the blade body bears against when the cutting edge of the blade is moved into cutting engagement with an item being cut with the tool.

Cutting insert

A cutting insert for a cutting tool includes a body having a cutting edge, a rake face, and micro channels provided on the rake face adjacent the cutting edge. The micro channels define a grid pattern of micro channels that intersect each other in a region of the rake face where contact between a chip and the rake face is assumed to occur during cutting with the cutting insert.

DRILL BIT WITH A REPLACEABLE CUTTING PORTION

A drill bit rotatable about a rotation axis is disclosed. The drill bit has a first drill bit portion configured as a cutting portion and has an annular portion connected at one end to one or more cutting elements and, at another end, a first connection device. The drill bit has a second drill bit portion configured as a drilling shank portion and has a cylindrical drill shaft, which on one end has a second connection device. The first and second connection devices in a connected state form a detachable connection, and a force transmission and torque transmission occur from the drill shaft portion to the cutting portion. The cutting portion has a third connection device, and the drill shaft portion has a fourth connection device. The third and fourth connection devices in a connected state form in an axial direction parallel to the axis a form-fitting connection.

Hole saw

A hole saw includes a substantially cylindrical body defining a cutting end and an axis of rotation. The hole saw also includes first and second apertures formed through the body and spaced from the cutting end such that a portion of the body extends between the cutting end and both the first and second apertures. The first and second apertures are both configured to receive a tool for removing work piece plugs from within the cylindrical body. The first aperture is axially spaced from the cutting end a first distance. The second aperture is axially spaced from the cutting end a second distance that is greater than the first distance. The first aperture and the second aperture are separated by a portion of the body.

Provided is a method for manufacturing a gripping tool for gripping a workpiece with top jaws (30) attached to a plurality of master jaws (20) attached to a gripping tool body (10). A first positioner (21, 24) that determines the distance of the top jaw from the center axis of the top jaw when the top jaw is attached to the master jaw is formed in a direction perpendicular to a slide direction in a surface of the master jaw. The method includes a step of attaching the plurality of master jaws to the gripping tool body, a step of gripping a shaping plug (70) by sliding the plurality of master jaws toward the center axis, and a step of finishing, in the surface of the master jaw, the first positioner extending in the direction perpendicular to the slide direction.

Hole saw

A hole saw is movable about a rotational axis in a cutting direction to cut into a workpiece. The hole saw includes a cylindrical body with a sidewall having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, a gullet formed in the sidewall between a leading surface, a trailing surface, and a bottom surface of the sidewall, and a support aperture formed in the sidewall. The gullet extends through the first end of the body. The support aperture is entirely surrounded by the sidewall. A majority of the support aperture circumferentially overlaps with the gullet. At least a portion of the support aperture is positioned closer than the bottom surface of the sidewall to the second end. The hole saw includes a cutting tooth coupled to the first end of the sidewall adjacent the gullet and an end cap coupled to the second end of the sidewall.
