T-SLOT CUTTER
20180133812 · 2018-05-17 ·

A T-slot cutter (1) is a tool for cutting a T-groove in a workpiece, and includes a body (2A) and an insert portion (3). The insert portion (3) is fixed to a leading end portion of the body (2A) using screws (8). The insert portion (3) is configured by overlaying inserts (4) and (5). By changing a combination of the inserts configuring the insert portion (3), a groove width and an angular shape of the T-groove cut in the workpiece can be easily adjusted. On mating faces of the inserts (4, 5), convex portions and concave portions of the mating face of the insert (4) overlap with concave portions and convex portions of the mating face of the insert (5). As a result, the inserts (4, 5) partially overlap with each other in a thickness direction, and thus a protrusion length of the insert portion (3) can be shortened.

TOOL HEAD FOR A MODULAR SHANK TOOL

The shank (12) of a disposable rotary cutting tool (10) comprises a pipe section (16) cut from a drawn metal pipe. The tool head (14) is formed from a cut-out (18a, 18b) of a drawn metal sheet or a section of a metal tube by non-cutting machining. The pipe section (16) and the tool head (14) are advantageously attached by force fitting.

INSERT TYPE TOOL AND THREAD MILL
20180117685 · 2018-05-03 ·

An insert portion (3) of a thread mill (1A) is fixed to a leading end portion of a body (2A) using screws (8). The insert portion (3) is configured by overlaying an insert (4) for finish machining and an insert (5) for rough machining. On respective mating faces of the inserts (4, 5), convex portions and concave portions of the mating face of the insert (4) are overlaid with concave portions and convex portions of the mating face of the insert (5). The thread mill (1A) can cut a female screw in a hole formed in a workpiece by performing right-hand cut down-cut milling, for example. The inserts (4, 5) simultaneously cut an inner peripheral surface of the hole, and the rough machining and the finish machining can thus be performed in a single pass. By the convex portions and the concave portions of the respective mating faces of the inserts (4, 5) being overlaid with each other, the inserts (4, 5) partially overlap in their respective thickness directions. As a result, a protrusion length of the insert portion (3) can be shortened.

NON-ROTATING BIT FOR CUTTING TOOL

A cutting bit assembly for attachment to a tool holder of a milling-type machine includes a cutting tip, a generally cylindrical shank extending from the cutting tip and comprising a rotation-limiting surface, and a spring clip surrounding a body of the shank. The spring clip includes a protrusion configured to interact with the rotation-limiting surface of the shank to limit rotation of the shank relative to the spring clip. The spring clip includes a contracted configuration and an expanded configuration, and in both the contracted configuration and the expanded configuration the protrusion interacts with the rotation-limiting surface.

CUTTING TOOL WITH MODULAR POCKET WALL

A cutting tool includes a base body and a cutting head at least partially disposed within a modular pocket of the base body. The modular pocket is formed by at least one wall section removably attached to the base body. In one variation, a non-removable portion of the base body also forms part of the modular pocket. In another variation, the modular pocket is formed by two removable wall sections on opposite sides of the modular pocket. In yet another variation, the removable wall sections include a clamping portion to exert a downward force on the cutting head to enable mounting the cutting head in the modular pocket using an interference fit.

Replaceable cutting head

A replaceable cutting head stably rotates a head body using a work tool during attachment. An outer periphery of the head body is provided with a plurality of chip discharge grooves extending along a direction of an axis, cutting blades extending along the chip discharge grooves, and a pair of latching faces that are formed by cutting the outer periphery of the head body and are arranged back to back with the axis interposed therebetween at a base end portion along the axial direction. A first chip discharge groove, and a second chip discharge groove having a narrower width along a circumferential direction around the axis than the first chip discharge groove at at least the base end portion along the direction of the axis are included in the chip discharge grooves. At least one latching face is connected to a base end portion of the second chip discharge groove.
