A convertible bassinet including a mobile support enabling selective movement about a supporting surface and a braking apparatus providing the ability to secure the mobile support in a laterally fixed position on the surface. The mobile support also includes a vertical adjustment mechanism enabling the height of the bassinet to be altered by a user. The bassinet further includes a top perimeter frame with a position actuator for varying the height of the top perimeter frame above a child supporting surface. When in an uppermost position the perimeter frame defines a bassinet. A changing table surface is defined when the perimeter frame is repositioned to a lowermost position. Resilient connectors between the position actuator and the perimeter frame members allow the top perimeter frame to move from the uppermost position to the lowermost position independent of movement of the position actuator.

A bedding apparatus to provide a soft, cushioned, foldable layer or layers that can be trimmed, folded, or otherwise adjusted precisely to the required size of the bedframe, and is breathe-through for users that may have turned face down. In another form, the user is further elevated by a breathe-through support-structure that is user-configurable as to length, width and height, and is modular and nesting for ease of compact storage and shipping.

A bassinet includes amain frame and a bassinet frame. The bassinet frame is detachably installed on the main frame. The bassinet frame is vertically movable between a first position and a second position relative to the main frame. When the bassinet frame is located at the first position, a supporting surface of the bassinet frame is located in close proximity to a top surface of the main frame, so that the bassinet provides an unhindered view of a child in the bassinet frame. The bassinet can be used as a normal bassinet when the bassinet frame is located at the second position. The main frame and the bassinet frame can be used as a standard play yard and a stand-alone bassinet when the bassinet frame is detached from the main frame. Therefore, the bassinet of the present invention has multiple purposes.

An easy-access bassinet especially useful for new mothers and babies, either in hospitals or at home. The bassinet has a barrier to prevent the infant from rolling off a sleeping platform, and one wall of the barrier is convertible to permit a mother to reach in and cradle the infant, for breast-feeding for example. The convertible wall may have a restoring mechanism to transform it back to its original barrier position upon removal of the weight of the mother's arms, or may be detachable. The convertible wall may be rigid adjacent the sleeping platform that lowers or pivots out of the way, or a mesh or fabric panel that may be depressed downward. A partial barrier wall may also be provided just inside the convertible front wall for extra security. The mesh or fabric panel is easily detached for cleaning or replacement.

A reconfigurable accessory frame for use with an infant crib having a perimeter similarly sized to that of the top of the crib frame upon which it is used. The frame is foldable about an asymmetrically positioned transverse axis into one of the two positions. In the first position, the frame extends to substantially cover the open perimeter of the crib disposed underneath. Soft goods supported from the frame define a generally level surface that is convenient for changing an infant diaper along with a storage compartment disposed at one end. The level changing surface encompasses a majority of the area encompassed by the frame. In the second position, the frame is folded so that the end portion opposite of the storage compartment is moved into a positon adjacently above the remainder of the changing table surface. The design of the folding hinge elevates a portion of the frame and allows soft goods to hang downwardly toward and approaching the level of the soft goods defining the changing table surface to define a napper structure in the soft goods.
