TRIBOLOGICAL OPTIMIZED CUTTER TOOL FOR MILLING TITANIUM OR TITANIUM ALLOYS
A coating comprising a bottom layer comprising a hard physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating applied to the end mill. The bottom layer has an edge-prep and polished top surface with reoriented cutting forces. The coating includes a top layer comprising a friction reducing coating applied to the top surface of the bottom layer to prevent or minimize titanium or titanium alloy adhesion to the end mill during milling operations of a metal object comprising the titanium or titanium alloy. The coating has a chemical composition which has inertness toward titanium or titanium alloy. A cutter tool and method are also provided.
COATED CUTTING TOOL
A coated cutting tool comprising a substrate comprising a cubic boron nitride sintered body and a coating layer formed on the substrate, wherein the coating layer comprises a Ti carbonitride layer comprising Ti(C.sub.xN.sub.1-x); an average thickness of the Ti carbonitride layer is 0.5 m or more and 5.0 m or less; in the Ti carbonitride layer, R75 is higher than R25; in the Ti carbonitride layer, a texture coefficient TC (111) of a (111) plane is 1.0 or more and 2.0 or less; and in X-ray diffraction measurement of the Ti carbonitride layer, an absolute value of a difference between a maximum value and a minimum value of 2 is 0.1 or less on the (111) plane when the measurement is performed at each of angles of 0, 30, 50 and 70.
MULTILAYER NITRIDE HARD COATINGS
In one aspect, coatings are described herein employing composite architectures providing high aluminum content and high hardness for various cutting applications. For example, a coated cutting tool comprises a substrate and a coating comprising a refractory layer deposited by physical vapor deposition adhered to the substrate, the refractory layer comprising a plurality of sublayer groups, a sublayer group comprising a titanium aluminum nitride sublayer and an adjacent composite sublayer comprising alternating nanolayers of titanium silicon nitride and titanium aluminum nitride.
Solid-carbide end milling cutter having a TiAlN—ZrN coating
A solid carbide milling cutter has a substrate of hard metal and a multi-layer coating deposited at least to surface regions that contact a workpiece during a milling operation. The multi-layer coating includes a single-layer or a multi-layer functional layer deposited directly on the substrate surface and a single-layer or a multi-layer covering layer deposited on the functional layer. The functional layer has one or more layers of Ti.sub.xAl.sub.1-xN with 0.3x0.55. The covering layer has one or more layers of ZrN. The functional layer and the covering layer are deposited by HIPIMS, wherein during the deposition of the functional layer power pulses are applied to each sputtering target consisting of material to be deposited, which power pulses transfer an amount of energy to each sputtering target that exceeds a maximum power density in the pulse of 500 W/cm.sup.2.
ROTARY CUTTER FOR MACHINING MATERIALS
A rotary cutting tool. The tool has a body with outside diameter (OD), and outer surface, and a longitudinal axis, a plurality of flutes, helical in some embodiments. Flutes include a narrow leading edge land portion with circular segment profile and having flute cutting edge portions along a substantially uniform circumferential location, with an eccentric relief margin rotationally rearward of the narrow leading edge land portions. Face portions are provided with face cutting edge portions, and with a first dish portion adjacent each of the cutting edge portions sloping inwardly and downwardly generally toward a central longitudinal axis at a first dish angle alpha () Corner blend portions extend from flute cutting edge portions to the face cutting edge portions. Corner blend portions are provided in a variety of profiles, including an embodiment wherein the profile of the corner blend portions are truncated before the segment of curvature becomes tangential to the face cutting edge portions. Large core diameters of cutting tools are provided, which gives high strength when working with axial depths of cut of about three times outside tool diameter or less.
Surface-coated cutting tool and method of manufacturing the same
This surface-coated cutting tool includes a cutting tool body made of tungsten carbide-based cemented carbide and a hard coating layer deposited on a surface of the cutting tool body, in which the hard coating layer has at least one (Ti.sub.1-xAl.sub.x)N layer (0.4X0.7, X is an atomic ratio) with an average layer thickness of 0.5 to 10 m, the (Ti, Al)N layer has a cubic crystal structure, and IaIb<5 is satisfied when Ia (%) is an average absorptance of the hard coating layer at a wavelength of 400 to 500 nm and Ib (%) is an average absorptance of the hard coating layer at a wavelength of 600 to 700 nm.
Monolithic ceramic end mill cutter set having a helix angle in the interval of 28° to 43°
The invention is a monolithic end-mill cutter set (A) that can be made of ceramic and/or other materials having high strength and toughness and comprising a shank part (B) along a longitudinal axis (4) and a cutter part (C), comprising: a cutting diameter (1) varying between 2 to 20 mm, at least one web thickness (18) found at a blade (26) part, at least one helix angle (10) having a cutting edge (13) thereon, a core diameter (16) that is at least 0.7 times the cutting diameter (1), at least one corner radius (5) found at the tip part of the blades (26) between the flutes (9) and axial and positive radial rake angles (17) at which cutting operation is made. It has a wide helix angle interval and a positive rake angle. Titanium Aluminum Nitride TiAlN coating can be made on the monolithic end-mill cutter set (A) via PVD coating method in order to extend the service life of the end-mill cutter set (A), increase the abrasion resistance, and minimize the problem of sticking of rake on the cutter set (joining).

Hard lubricating coating film and hard lubricating coating film-covered tool
A hard lubrication film, with which a surface of a base material is coated, has two or more alternately laminated layers that are one or more A-layers made of (Cr.sub.aMo.sub.bW.sub.cV.sub.dB.sub.e).sub.1x.sub.yC.sub.xN.sub.y and one or more B-layers made of (Cr.sub.aMo.sub.bW.sub.cV.sub.dB.sub.e).sub.1xyzC.sub.xN.sub.yO.sub.z. Atom ratios a, b, c, d, e=1abcd, x+y, and y related to A-layers satisfy 0.2a0.7, 0.05b0.6, 0c0.3, 0d0.05, 0e0.05, 0.3x+y0.6, and 0y0.6, respectively. Atom ratios a, b, c, d, e=1abcd, x, y, z, and x+y+z related to B-layers satisfy 0.2a0.7, 0.05b0.6, 0c0.3, 0d0.05, 0e0.05, 0x0.6, 0y0.6, 0<z0.6, and 0.3x+y+z0.6, respectively. Each A-layer has a film thickness within a range of 2 nm or more to 1000 nm or less, each B-layer has a film thickness within a range of 2 nm or more to 500 nm or less, and wherein the hard lubrication film has a total film thickness within a range of 0.1 m or more to 10.0 m or less.
SURFACE-COATED CUTTING TOOL
A surface-coated cutting tool includes a substrate composed of cemented carbide and a coating film. The coating film includes an intermediate layer in contact with the substrate and an upper layer formed on the intermediate layer. The upper layer is made up of a single layer consisting of an upper base layer which is a layer in contact with the intermediate layer or multiple layers constituted of two or more layers. A mismatch in lattice interplanar spacing in an interface region between the substrate and the intermediate layer is not higher than 65% of a theoretical value of a mismatch in lattice interplanar spacing between the substrate and the upper base layer. A mismatch in lattice interplanar spacing in an interface region between the intermediate layer and the upper base layer is not higher than 65% of the theoretical value of the mismatch in lattice interplanar spacing between the substrate and the upper base layer.
