Key duplication system with key blank orientation detection features
Systems and methods for duplicating keys are disclosed. A key duplication system receives a key blank into a key receiving module. The key receiving module includes opposable jaws that assist with alignment of the key blank within the module. The key receiving module also includes an end stop that engages the tip of the received key blank and is linearly displaced as the key blank is further inserted. The linear displacement of the end stop is compared to a known value corresponding to a length of the shank of the key blank, and if the displacement does not match the known value, the user is instructed to re-orient the key blank.
System for identifying and duplicating master keys
A system for duplicating a master key includes a mechanism for receiving and positioning a master key. The master key defines a major key axis and an intermediate key axis along which a key blade variably extends, and a minor key axis along a key thickness. Optical path components direct a light beam along the minor key axis. The light beam impinges upon the key blade. A portion of the light beam traverses the key blade. A detector receives the portion of the light beam that traverses the key blade. An apparatus imparts relative motion along the major key axis between the light beam and the master key. The light beam scans along the major key axis of the master key. A processor receives a signal from the detector as the beam scans along the major key axis and generates information usable for defining the machining of a duplicate key.
KEY DUPLICATION MACHINE HAVING PIVOTING CLAMP
A clamp is disclosed for a key making machine. The clamp may have an anvil, and a door movable toward the anvil to sandwich a key blank therebetween. The clamp may also have a gate pivotally connected to the door and configured to engage the key blank.
Self service key duplicating machine with automatic key model identification system
A method of duplicating a key includes receiving a master key in a key duplicating machine. The machine automatically detects a cross sectional profile of the master key. The machine automatically determines, based on the detected cross sectional profile, a type and model of the master key. The machine automatically selects a key blank that matches the type and model of the master key, and then automatically cuts the selected key blank to duplicate a key tooth pattern of the master key.

Electronic key duplicating machine
An electronic key duplicating machine includes a base, on which a first support is mounted for a clamp for, at separate moments, an original key and a blank key, an optical reader sensing the bitting of the original key, and a milling cutter reproducing the bitting on the blank key, which are mounted on a second support rigid with the machine base, the clamp being movable along the X axis and the Y axis relative to the second support, a unit memorizing the bitting of the original key sensed by the optical reader and controlling and commanding movement of the clamp and operability of optical reader and milling cutter, wherein the second support is of C-shape with its opening facing the clamp, and the optical reader is mounted on horizontal branches of the second C-shaped support, while the milling cutter is mounted in the cavity defined by the horizontal branches.
