A dry storage systems for radioactive nuclear waste materials may include a double-walled canister system. The canister system may include a canister having a tubular inner shell defining an internal cavity for storing nuclear waste material, a first lid sealably welded to a first end of the inner shell, a primary base plate defining a peripheral edge portion and having an annular closure flange, and an annular full thickness butt weld formed at an abutment joint between the annular closure flange and a second end of the inner shell. The inner shell, first lid, and first end closure may collectively define a sealed primary pressure retention barrier. A tubular outer shell may adjoin the inner shell. The outer shell may be welded to the canister to form a hermetically sealed secondary pressure retention barrier.

An illustrative example method of making a magnetic drive component includes inserting a plurality of metal teeth into a metal tube. The teeth respectively have a first portion received against an inner surface of the tube. The teeth respectively have a second portion and a third portion spaced apart and projecting toward a center of the tube. The method includes securing the plurality of teeth to the tube.

Rolled tubular centralizer

A method of forming a centralizer where a flat plate is created into a tubular where the flat plate is typically rolled so that two sides of the plate contact one another and are then linked, typically by welding. Openings are then created in the tubular such that there are no corners or other points that stress cracks may originate. Once the openings are created the remaining material between adjacent openings forms ribs. The openings created in the tubular are generally aligned with the long axis of the tubular. The material at the upper and lower end of the flat plate where openings were not created serve as circumferential collars. The ribs may be radially outwardly expanded in order to provide adequate stand-off. In many instances the ribs will also be hardened by heat treating or other hardening processes.

Plumber's heat shield

A plumber's heat shield comprises an arcuate preferably metallic shell attached to a spring-clamp by means of an obedient shaft which enables the heat shield to be moved to any position relative to the spring-clamp. The arcuate shell is preferably formed from aluminum or other material having high infrared reflectivity. The obedient shaft is preferably formed from helically-wound steel spring outer sheath surrounding a ductile copper wire core. The spring steel outer sheath prevents the ductile copper wire core from being bent at too sharp of a radius (which would cause the ductile core to work-harden and fracture) while at the same time protecting the ductile copper wire core from the open-flame of the soldering torch.
