METHODS FOR FORMING VERTICALLY CRACKED THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS AND ARTICLES INCLUDING VERTICALLY CRACKED THERMAL BARRIER COATINGS
A method for forming a vertically cracked thermal barrier coating is disclosed including positioning an article relative to a heat source. The article includes a thermal barrier coating disposed on a first surface of a substrate, and the substrate includes a second surface distal across the substrate from the first surface. Heat is applied locally to at least one discrete portion of the second surface of the substrate. At least one vertical crack in the thermal barrier coating is formed disposed over the at least one discrete portion. An article is disclosed including a substrate and a vertically-cracked thermal barrier coating disposed on the substrate. The vertically cracked thermal barrier coating includes at least one vertical crack in the thermal barrier coating and at least one of a low density of less than 85% of a theoretical density for the thermal barrier coating and a selective crack distribution.
Apparatus for Improving Weld Uniformity
An apparatus for improving weld uniformity, controlling weld spatter and reducing weld joint bending stresses. The apparatus includes a first component having a welding contact point and a second component having a weld zone for engaging with the welding contact point of the first component. At least one weld upset distance stop is formed on the first or second component operative to control weld spatter and to reduce weld joint bending stresses.

A metallic member bonding device includes a pressurizing unit, a current supply unit, and a deformation suppressing unit. The pressurizing unit pressurizes a first metallic member toward a hole portion of a second metallic member to press the first metallic member therein. The current supply unit supplies a welding current between the first metallic member and the second metallic member. The deformation suppressing unit suppresses deformation of one of the first metallic member and the second metallic member, the one member having a constituent metallic material with at least one of a proof stress and a melting temperature lower than that of the other member, the deformation being in a direction of a cross section crossing a direction of the press-in. Then, the deformation suppressing unit is provided in a region covering at least a plastic flow range in the press-in direction.

A power end frame includes a housing and a face plate secured to the housing. During use, components of the power end frame, including the housing and the face plate, are subjected to large tensile stresses. This disclosure describes a method of imparting compressive stresses in the power end frame to resist these large tensile stresses.
VEHICLE FRAME STRUCTURE
Provided is a vehicle frame structure including (1) a first frame member that has a closed cross-sectional shape as seen in a cross-sectional view orthogonal to an extension direction and (2) a second frame member that extends along the first frame member, overlaps a wall surface of the first frame member, and has a hole portion that exposes the wall surface, with an edge portion of the bole portion being joined to the wall surface by a linear welded portion, wherein both end portions of the welded portion are disposed in close proximity to a neutral axis of the first frame member and the second frame member in a case in which the first frame member and the second frame member have undergone bending deformation in an in-plane direction of the wall surface in which the welded portion is formed.

A welded shaped steel manufacturing device for weld-connecting a butt portion of a web member having an end butting perpendicularly against a flange member and thereafter correcting in shape the flange member subjected to thermal deformation caused by heat input during welding, the device includes: a corrective device including flange-member correcting rollers arranged for respective ends of the flange member, each configured to press each end on a web-member side of the flange member so as to correct the thermal deformation over a range of the flange member from each end thereof to the butt portion thereof against the web member, and web-member supporting rollers configured to support a web surface of the web member, wherein the flange-member correcting rollers arranged for the respective ends of the flange member apply independent pressures to the respective ends so as to correct the thermal deformation.
APPARATUS FOR REGULATING WELDING DEFORMATION OF BOX STRUCTURE AND REGULATION METHOD
An apparatus for regulating the welding deformation of a box-shaped structure, said apparatus comprising: a supporting part and a regulating part; a supporting surface that supports a box to be welded is formed on the supporting part; the regulating part is connected to the supporting part and at least abuts against a welding surface of said box; during the welding process, the regulating part regulates the flatness of said box by means of regulating the magnitude and/or force application position of a force acting on the welding surface of said box. In the regulation apparatus, multi-point flexible support is arranged on a bolster box-shaped structure, so as to achieve real-time dynamic regulation and step-by-step precision regulation, thereby improving the manufacturing precision of a bolster, and eliminating post-welding modification and repair of the bolster box-shaped structure. Also disclosed is a method for regulating the welding deformation of a box-shaped structure.
INTELLIGENT ELECTROMAGNETIC INDUCTION HEATING LEVELING SYSTEM AND METHOD THEREOF
An intelligent electromagnetic induction heating leveling system, comprising: a trolley type leveler, an unmanned aerial vehicle temperature measurement device, indoor positioning devices used for converting position information of a trolley of the trolley type leveler and the unmanned aerial vehicle temperature measurement device into position parameters, and a control system. The system can perform, according to preset data parameters, data transmission by means of a wireless local area network and the unmanned aerial vehicle temperature measurement device and control the unmanned aerial vehicle temperature measurement device to move to a specified position. The system intelligently controls the leveling temperature and leveling time of a leveling area, and thus may be suitable for leveling of weld joints having different sizes and depths, and achieve a good leveling effect. Also provided is an intelligent electromagnetic induction heating leveling method.
Distortion mitigation in directed energy deposition
Provided are a curved clamping mold and systems and methods using the curved clamping mold for manufacturing objects, especially titanium and titanium alloy objects, by directed energy deposition. The methods include thermally pre-bending the substrate onto which the object is to be manufactured to form a pre-bent substrate, attaching the pre-bent substrate to a jig using the curved clamping mold as an underlying support, pre-heating the substrate, and forming the object on the pre-heated, pre-bent substrate using a directed energy deposition technique.
