Method of making light weight component with internal metallic foam and polymer reinforcement
A method of making a light weight component including the steps of: forming a metallic foam core into a desired configuration; applying an external metallic shell to an exterior surface of the metallic foam core after it has been formed into the desired configuration; forming an inlet opening and an outlet opening in the external metallic shell in order to provide a fluid path through the metallic foam core; and injecting a thermoplastic material into the metallic foam core via the inlet opening.
METHOD OF MANUFACTURING COMPOSITE MOLDED BODY
There is provided a method of manufacturing a composite molded body that can increase a processing speed and a joining strength in a different direction. The method of manufacturing a composite molded body in which a metal molded body and a resin molded body are joined, includes the steps of: continuously irradiating a joint surface of the metal molded body with laser light at an irradiation speed of 2,000 mm/sec or more by using a continuous-wave laser; and arranging, within a mold, a portion of the metal molded body including the joint surface irradiated with the laser light in the preceding step and performing injection molding of a resin forming the resin molded body, or performing compression molding in a state where a portion of the metal molded body including the joint surface irradiated with the laser light in the preceding step and a resin forming the resin molded body are made to contact with each other.
Methods and systems for additive tool manufacturing
An additive manufacturing system includes an electrode head comprising an array of electrodes for depositing material to form a three-dimensional part. The array includes a first plurality of electrodes formed from a first metallic material having a first ductility and a first hardness, and a second plurality of electrodes formed from a second metallic material having a second ductility and a second hardness, wherein the first ductility is greater than the second ductility and the second hardness is greater than the first hardness. A power source provides electrical power for establishing a welding arc for each electrode. A drive roll system drives each electrode. A controller is connected to the power source to control operations of the additive manufacturing system to form an interior portion of the part using the first plurality of electrodes, and control the operations of the additive manufacturing system to form an exterior portion of the part using the second plurality of electrodes, such that ductility of the interior portion of the part is greater than ductility of the exterior portion of the part.
RESISTANCE SPOT WELDING METHOD
A resistance spot welding method includes sandwiching metal plates put on top of one another between a pair of electrodes and performing resistance spot welding sequentially on a plurality of welding points close to each other on the metal plates by performing a current application between the electrodes so as to join the metal plates to each other. A welding current value to form a welding nugget at a welding point to be subjected to the resistance spot welding second or later among the welding points is set to be higher than a first welding current value to form a first welding nugget at a first welding point to be subjected to the resistance spot welding first among the welding points.
LAMINATED, LEAK-RESISTANT CHEMICAL PROCESSORS, METHODS OF MAKING, AND METHODS OF OPERATING
The invention provides methods of making laminated devices (especially microchannel devices) in which plates are assembled and welded together. Unlike conventional microchannel devices, the inventive laminated devices can be made without brazing or diffusion bonding; thus providing significant advantages for manufacturing. Features such as expansion joints and external welded supports are also described. Laminated devices and methods of conducting unit operations in laminated devices are also described.
MAGNETIC COMPONENT AND METHOD OF FORMING
A component includes a magnetic core having a body formed of a first material, defining a first opening and a second opening thereon. A duct formed of a second material extends at least partially through the body between the first opening and the second opening. The first opening and the second opening are in fluid communication by way of the duct.
Degradable implantable medical devices
Devices and methods are provided for an implantable medical device which is degradable over a clinically relevant period of time. The medical devices may have the form of implants, graft implants, vascular implants, non vascular implants, wound closure implants, sutures, drug delivery implants, biologic delivery implants, urinary tract implants, inter-uterine implants, organ implants, bone implants including bone plates, bone screws, dental implants, spinal disks, or the like. In preferred embodiments, the implantable medical device comprises an implantable luminal prosthesis, such as vascular and non-vascular stents and stents grafts.
Fabrication method including a modified assembly step
The invention relates to a fabrication method including an assembly step for inserting an intermediate part intended to ensure the flatness of the face to be welded.
Method for manufacturing a metallic or ceramic component by selective laser melting additive manufacturing
The invention refers to a method for selective laser melting additive manufacturing a three-dimensional metallic or ceramic article/component entirely or partly. The method includes successively building up said article/component layer by layer directly from a powder bed of a metallic or ceramic base material by means of remelting the layers with a high energy laser beam, moving repetitively across the areas, which are to be solidified. The movement of the laser beam is made of a superposition of a continuous linear movement and at least one superimposed oscillation with a determined frequency and amplitude. The oscillation is created by a beam deflection device and the same beam deflection device is also used for linear positioning movement.
Light weight housing for internal component and method of making
A method of making a light weight component is provided. The method including the steps of: forming a metallic foam core into a desired configuration; inserting a pre-machined component into an opening in the metallic foam core; applying an external metallic shell to an exterior surface of the metallic foam core after it has been formed into the desired configuration and after the pre-machined component has been inserted into the metallic foam core; introducing an acid into an internal cavity defined by the external metallic shell; dissolving the metallic foam core; and removing the dissolved metallic foam core from the internal cavity, wherein the component and the external metallic shell are resistant to the acid.
