The invention relates to a method for assembling a first metal part with a second part made of an organic matrix composite material, the first part having a first connecting portion and the second part having a second connecting portion, the method comprising the steps of: causing the first connecting portion and the second connecting portion to overlap, a through-hole of the second connecting portion opening onto the first connecting portion, forming a protective layer on the side wall of the through-hole, forming a seal between the protective layer and the first connecting portion, and forming, by additive manufacturing using cold gas spray deposition of metal powder, a fastening element which extends into the through-hole, is fastened to the first connecting portion and encloses the second connecting portion.
Component of a Brake for a Vehicle and Method for Its Manufacturing
A component of a brake for a vehicle, having a metallic base body with a surface provided with a coating which includes an intermediate layer lying on the base body and a covering layer lying on the intermediate layer. The covering layer is formed from a stainless steel matrix with hard material particles embedded therein. The hard material particles embedded in the stainless steel matrix have an average grain diameter of 10-125 μm and have a non-melted core region consisting of uninfluenced material of the hard material particles, which core region is surrounded at least in sections by a mixing zone formed from material of the stainless steel matrix and material of the respective hard material particle, via which mixing zone the hard material particles are in each case materially bonded to the stainless steel matrix. Also, a method by which a component coated in this way is produced.
Method and device for etching patterns inside objects
Systems and methods for etching complex patterns on an interior surface of a hollow object are disclosed. A method generally includes positioning a laser system within the hollow object with a focal point of the laser focused on the interior surface, and operating the laser system to form the complex pattern on the interior surface. Motion of the laser system and the hollow object is controlled by a motion control system configured to provide rotation and/or translation about a longitudinal axis of one or both of the hollow object and the laser system based on the complex pattern, and change a positional relationship between a reflector and a focusing lens of the laser system to accommodate a change in distance between the reflector and the interior surface of the hollow object.
Method for Manufacturing a Sandwich Panel
The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a sandwich panel as a semi-finished product where at least one layer of a non-metallic material is positioned between at least two metallic layers. At least one of the metal layers is shaped into a three dimensional layer, and the metal layers are in direct mechanical contact to enable resistance weldability of the semi-finished product in order to connect the semi-finished product to a desired combination of solutions in a subsequent manufacturing process.
ALUMINUM BORON NITRIDE NANOTUBE COMPOSITES AND METHODS OF MANUFACTURING THE SAME
Methods for fabricating high-strength aluminum-boron nitride nanotube (Al—BNNT) wires or wire feedstock from Al—BNNT composite raw materials by mechanical deformation using wire drawing and extrusion are provided, as well as large-scale, high-strength Al—BNNT composite components (e.g., with a length on the order of meters (m) and/or a mass on the order of hundreds of kilograms (kg)). The large-scale, high-strength Al—BNNT composite components can be made via wire-based additive manufacturing.
Welding auxiliary joining part and method for connecting components by way of said welding auxiliary joining part
A welding auxiliary joining part is disclosed in the shape of a stud having a head, a shank and a tip. The welding auxiliary joining part is driven in by means of a mechanical-thermal setting method into a component of non- or poorly weldable material. During the driving in, a welding head is created due to mechanical deformation so that the component may be connected subsequently via the welding auxiliary joining part to a further component of weldable material by means of welding.
One-piece woven occupant restraint system
A method for manufacturing a one-piece woven (OPW) air bag includes providing yarns and warping the yarns on at least one beam of a loom. Yarns are simultaneously woven into a fabric air bag structure having two layer portions defining both an inflatable volume and non-inflatable portions and single layer portions forming seams delimiting the inflatable volume. The air bag structure is cut to define the OPW air bag and at least one opening extending through only one layer of the two layer portions.
METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR THERMALLY JOINING THERMOPLASTIC FIBER COMPOSITE COMPONENTS, AND COVER FOR A PRESSURIZATION DEVICE SUITABLE FOR THIS PURPOSE
An apparatus for thermally joining thermoplastic fiber composite components includes a pressurization arrangement for jointly covering, at least in a region of a joining zone, thermoplastic fiber composite components to be joined and applying pressure to the thermoplastic fiber composite components to press the thermoplastic fiber composite components against one another, at least in the joining zone, the pressurization arrangement being flexible, at least in some section or sections. A welding device is configured for welding the fiber composite components in the joining zone during pressurization. The pressurization arrangement and welding device are configured to weld the thermoplastic fiber composite components in a pressurized state in the joining zone. The pressurization arrangement is configured to maintain pressurization independently of the welding device until the joining zone solidifies. A cover is also disclosed for a pressurization device for thermally joining thermoplastic fiber composite components.
Resistance Welding Fasteners, Apparatus and Methods for Joining Dissimilar Materials and Assessing Joints Made Thereby
An apparatus and method for method for joining materials includes a rivet that may extend through a first sheet to be resistance welded to a second sheet. The head of the rivet has a cavity and vents allowing adhesive extruded from a pilot hole to be received in the cavity and vented in a direction parallel to the first sheet. The rivet is deformed to an hourglass shape that fills the pilot hole and displaces the first sheet into the cavity. Rivet dimension allow for holding with a robotic gripper that can be withdrawn before welding. Methods of monitoring joint quality include comparing welding parameter profiles and images of good and discrepant joints.
