DEEP ROLL PEENING SYSTEM AND METHOD
A method for deep roll peening a workpiece includes deep roll peening a workpiece by moving the workpiece along a feed path through multiple groups of opposed rollers that are arranged in series. Each group of opposed rollers includes a rim that defines a workpiece engagement surface that exerts a deep roll peening force on the workpiece. A deep roll peening system includes multiple groups of opposed rollers. Each of the opposed rollers is rotatably mounted and has a rim that defines a workpiece engagement surface. The workpiece engagement surfaces are spaced apart from each other by a gap. The groups are arranged in series such that the gaps define a feed path for receiving a workpiece into serial contact with the workpiece engagement surfaces.

MACHINING OF CERAMIC MATRIX COMPOSITE DURING PREFORMING AND PARTIAL DENSIFICATION
A method of forming a component for a gas turbine engine using ceramic matrix composites (CMCs) is provided. The method includes preforming the aerodynamic component into an initial desired shape using the CMCs, executing partial densification of the CMCs, repeating the preforming operations and the executing of the partial densification until a final desired shape of the aerodynamic component is achieved, machining or cutting the CMCs during one or more of the preforming operations and the executing of the partial densification to remove defects from the CMCs and executing a full densification of the CMCs.

DENTING DEVICE FOR IMPROVING SURFACE ROUGHNESS OF VALVE PLATE AND VALVE PLATE HAVING DENT PATTERN
A denting device for forming a predetermined pattern on a surface near a discharge hole and an intake hole of a valve plate for a compressor includes: a seating jig to which the valve plate is fixed; a processing pin in which a pressing part for pressing the valve plate is formed at a distal end thereof; and a moving unit which is disposed on an upper portion of the seating jig, horizontally moves the processing pin at a constant speed while allowing the processing pin to vertically reciprocate at a constant speed, so as to form the pattern on the valve plate.
TOOL FOR ROUGHENING A METALLIC SURFACE
A roughening tool for roughening a metallic surface of an inner wall of a pre-drilled workpiece bore is disclosed. The roughening tool has a profiled contour provided between the tool clamping shaft and the tool tip. With this contour, a roughened structure can be produced through rotation of the tool by processing the metallic surface in a material removing or non-material removing manner The roughening tool includes at least one profiled web which extends along the tool axis, protrudes from a main tool part, and on whose outer web back the profiled contour is provided.
System and method for coldworking holes in a workpiece
Systems and methods for coldworking metal are described that reduce the axial flow of metal and increase the radial/tangential flow, thereby improving the fatigue life at an aperture. A tool is inserted through an aperture and its travel speed is reduced when in contact with the metal to reduce axial plastic flow. A sensor as part of the motive system moving the mandrel can sense when the tool contacts the metal and reduces the speed of the tool. The tool may move more quickly when not in contact with the metal to reduce working time than when the mandrel is working the metal. The coldworking tool engages the metal at the aperture at a speed of less than the speed which results in the time duration for the mandrel engaging the metal at the aperture for 35 second per inch of metal thickness at the aperture.
Roll peening tooling and process
An example peening tool includes at least one first roller having a peening surface disposed about and along a first core. At least a portion of the at least one first roller is configured to contact a component to be peened along a length. The length extends along at least a portion of the first core. The at least one first roller is configured to provide line contact on the component along the length. A profile of the at least one first roller is determined based on a profile of the component. The peening tool includes a backer disposed in register with the first plurality of rollers such that the first plurality of rollers moves with the backer during peening. The at least one first roller and the backer are configured to be arranged on opposing surfaces of the component. Peening models may predict peening parameters and controller settings.
