20220001500 · 2022-01-06 ·

Methods and systems for characterizing holes in a combustor liner of a gas turbine engine, and associated repair methods are provided. One method comprises receiving first measured data of the combustor liner in an uncoated state. The method includes determining a first location and a first orientation of a first hole and a first location and a first orientation of a second hole in the combustor liner using the first measured data. The method includes receiving second measured data of the combustor liner in a coated state where the second hole is at least partially obstructed by a coating and the first hole is substantially unobstructed by the coating. The method includes inferring a second location of the second hole of the combustor liner in the coated state using a known spacing between the first location of the first hole and the first location of the second hole. The characterization of the holes may be used to re-drill the obstructed second hole.

Method for manufacturing or for repairing a component of a rotary machine as well as a component manufactured or repaired using such a method

A method for manufacturing a component of a rotary machine, the component extends in an axial direction and a radial direction vertical thereto, and has an inner channel, extending from a first end in a center of the component to a second end at a radial limiting surface of the component and which is partially closed. A blank includes the center of the component and is limited by an outer surface in the radial direction. The maximum dimension of the outer surface in the radial direction is smaller than the dimension of the limiting surface in the radial direction. A first subtractive process step is performed such that a part of the channel is manufactured by a machining process, with the part extending from the first end of the channel to the outer surface of the blank. Afterwards the channel is finished by a build-up process on the blank.

Additively manufactured object using mask over opening for coating

An additively manufactured (AM) object may include a body including an opening in an exterior surface thereof, the opening having a shape and a first area at the exterior surface of the body. A mask may be positioned over the opening. The mask has the shape of the opening and a second area that is larger than the first area so as to overhang the exterior surface of the body about the opening. A plurality of support ligaments couple to the mask and the exterior surface of the body at a location adjacent to the opening to support a portion of the mask. A coating can be applied to the object, and the mask removed. The final AM object includes a plurality of ligament elements extending from the exterior surface of the body and through the coating adjacent the opening, each ligament element at least partially surrounded by the coating.

Methods for forming cooling apertures in a turbine engine component

A manufacturing method is provided during which a preform component for a turbine engine is provided. The preform component includes a substrate. An outer coating is applied over the substrate. A characteristic of the outer coating is determined. Instructions for forming a cooling aperture are revised based on the characteristic of the outer coating to provide revised instructions. The cooling aperture is formed in the outer coating and the substrate based on the revised instructions.

A component of a rotary machine extends to an axial direction and a radial direction vertical thereto, and has an inner channel, extending from a first end of a core of a center of the component and to a second end at a radial limiting surface of the component and which is at least partially closed. A blank includes the core of the component and is limited by an outer surface in the radial direction. The blank is subtractively processed in a first subtractive process step, such that an outer contour is elaborated in the area of the outer surface, which extends in the radial direction, and a part of the channel is manufactured, which radially extends in the blank to the first end. The channel is formed by a build-up process on the blank.
