WORKPIECE HANDLING
An apparatus and associated method contemplating handling a workpiece on a surface. A mounting block is selectively movable in a first direction toward the surface. A finger is coupled to the mounting block so that the finger is retractable in a second nonparallel direction opposed to the first direction. The finger supports an engagement member operably contacting the workpiece and subject to a reaction force from the workpiece that retracts the finger during movement of the mounting block in the first direction. The engagement member traverses the surface as a result of simultaneous movement of the mounting block in the first direction and retraction of the finger in the second direction.

A manufacturing cell comprises a machine tool that has a tool carrier carrying a tool unit and has two adjacent workpiece paths oriented in a longitudinal direction. The tool unit can be displaced relative to a machine bed of the machine tool in a transverse direction and in a vertical direction. At least one workpiece carriage per workpiece path can be displaced in the longitudinal direction along the machine tool. The tool unit can be displaced in the longitudinal direction relative to the machine bed and/or relative to the workpiece carriages. The tool carrier overhangs or projects beyond the workpiece paths. The individual workpiece carriage can also be displaced in the longitudinal direction along the workpiece supply. Furthermore, the workpiece supply has at least one lowerable or tiltable stop device per workpiece path.

A material bar magazine for guiding material bars on an automatic lathe and a system having such a magazine and automatic lathe having at least one headstock that is displaceable along a longitudinal axis of the material bar magazine, where the material bar magazine includes a material bar-guiding channel system having a channel opening system. Further, the channel system of the material bar magazine has a first, outer guide channel and a second, inner guide channel mounted inside the first guide channel such that it can move relative thereto along the longitudinal direction, the second, inner guide channel couplable or coupled to the headstock of the automatic lathe so that it synchronously moves the second, inner guide channel as the headstock moves along a longitudinal axis of the material bar magazine, relative to the first guide channel.
