Method for manufacturing cubic boron nitride cutting tool and cubic boron nitride cutting tool
A method for manufacturing a cubic boron nitride cutting tool including a base metal and sintered cubic boron nitride compact at a corner portion of the base metal, capable of improving the accuracy of the center height and reducing the angle of inclination or width of a negative rake face; and the cubic boron nitride cutting tool. The method includes grinding the compact by pressing it against an end face of a grindstone of a grinder to form flank and rake faces on the compact while the base metal of the cutting tool is held by a chuck of the grinder, so that the compact is substantially ground. The rake face is formed to be recessed from a top face of the base metal or only a portion of the compact that protrudes from a base-metal rake face is ground while the tool is continuously held by the chuck.
THREE-FACE BLADE COMPATIBILITY
A method of grinding 3-face ground cutting blades for producing gears by a face hobbing cutting process wherein the correct initial blade spacing angle is achieved while providing the desired values for the effective cutting edge hook angle and the effective side rake angle as well as providing a complete cutting blade front face clean-up.
Cutting tool and method of manufacturing a cutting tool
The present invention provides a cutting tool which comprises a cutting tool insert with a tip portion of cBN material having a cutting edge formed therein and a base portion forming a sintered composition with the tip portion, and a body portion coupling the cutting tool insert with a shank of the cutting tool, wherein the cutting tool insert has a rake face and a first flank face defining the cutting edge. The rake face has a negative rake angle relative to an axis parallel to a center axis of the body portion. A second flank face defining a further edge with the first flank face is formed such that the cutting edge and the further edge do not have a common vertex. The second flank face is tilted with respect to an axis parallel to a center axis of the body portion by an angle greater than 0.
Modular clamping device
A clamping device for holding a workpiece, in particular a cutting tool, during machining in a grinding machine, wherein peripheral grinding of the workpiece is performed by means of a particularly approximately cup-shaped grinding wheel, wherein the clamping device comprises a support unit provided to be mounted on the grinding machine, a clamping unit comprising a clamping anvil supported in a clamping anvil holding element and translationally drivable to apply a clamping force parallel to a clamping axis, and a drive unit comprising a drive anvil supported in a drive axis and rotationally drivable for rotary orientating the workpiece by means of the drive axis. The clamping unit and the drive unit are provided as individual components, which are releasably or slidably attached to the support unit to form a workpiece spindle headstock of the grinding machine.
CERAMIC CUTTING INSERT AND METHOD OF MAKING SAME
A cutting insert includes a body made of a ceramic material. The body has a first surface, a second surface and at least one flank surface extending between the first surface and the second surface. The first surface includes a chip forming feature extending in a radially outwardly direction to a cutting edge and extending in a radially inwardly direction to an inner edge. The chip forming feature includes a front wall that slopes downward from the cutting edge radially inward toward a rounded bottom surface and a back wall that slopes upward from the rounded bottom surface radially inward to the inner edge. The chip forming feature can include an optional land surface between the cutting edge and the front wall.
