An article (100) has a polyester film backing (110) and a primer layer (120) including a carboxylated styrene butadiene copolymer crosslinked with a polyfunctional aziridine disposed on a major surface of the polyester film backing (110). Another article includes a polyester backing (110), a primer layer (120) including a carboxylated styrene butadiene copolymer crosslinked with a polyfunctional aziridine disposed on a major surface of the polyester backing (110), and a phenolic layer (140) disposed on the primer layer (120) on a surface opposite the polyester backing (110). The phenolic layer (120) can include abrasive particles (160). Processes for making the articles are also described, as well as methods for abrading a workpiece and improving adhesion between a polyester film backing (110) and a phenolic layer (120) on the polyester backing (110).
Abrasive article and method of making the same
In some examples, an abrasive particle transfer system including a production tool including a dispensing surface with a plurality of cavities formed therein; abrasive particles removably disposed within at least some of the cavities; and a nonwoven substrate having an outer surface opposing the dispensing surface of the production tool, wherein the dispending surface of the production tool is configured to apply a compressive force to the outer surface of the nonwoven substrate to compress the nonwoven substrate from a first thickness to a second thickness, wherein, while the nonwoven substrate is compressed to the second thickness by the production tool, the abrasive particles are transferred from the plurality of cavities to the nonwoven substrate.

The disclosure relates to layers comprising a body having a thickness, T, comprising a curable composition comprising a polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition and abrasive particles at least partially embedded in the polymerizable epoxy-acrylate resin composition, wherein the body includes a plurality of void spaces free of the curable composition extending into the body from the first major surface and the depth of the plurality of void spaces is at least 10 percent of thickness T. The disclosure also relates to cured compositions formed from such curable compositions and, in turn, abrasive articles made from such cured compositions as well as methods for making abrasive articles.

The present invention relates to an abrasive disk that is excellent in workability and stability and has a low degree of fatigue applied to workers and tools, and a process for producing the same. The abrasive disc is excellent in stability by virtue of a high adhesive strength of each layer, has high flexibility, elasticity, and adhesiveness, and is lightweight per unit area. Thus, it has a low degree of fatigue applied to workers and expensive tools. In addition, according to the above production process, the abrasive disk can be continuously mass-produced.

Systems and methods include providing a coated abrasive article with a substrate formed from a plurality of hygroscopic fibers, an abrasive layer comprising a make coat, a size coat, a supersize coat, or combinations thereof disposed on a first side of substrate, and an anti-curl layer disposed on a second side of the substrate. The polymer-based anti-curl layer allows the coated abrasive article to achieve a change in curl between −5 millimeters and 25 millimeters, the change in curl being expressed as the curl of the coated abrasive article in millimeters at 90% relative humidity minus the curl of the coated abrasive article in millimeters at 20% relative humidity. The coated abrasive article exhibits substantially no loss of grinding performance, burst speed, or a combination thereof as compared to coated abrasive articles free of the anti-curl layer.

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a grinding material which has a superior grinding rate and planarizing accuracy, with the grinding rate being less likely to be reduced over a relatively long period of time. The present invention is directed to a grinding material including a base, a grinding layer overlaid on a front face side of the base and including grinding grains and a binder for the grinding grains, and an adhesion layer overlaid on a back face side of the base, in which the grinding grains are diamond grinding grains, a wear quantity of the grinding layer as determined by a Taber abrasion test is no less than 0.03 g and no greater than 0.18 g, and, an Asker D hardness measured from a front face side of the grinding layer is no less than 80° and no greater than 98°.
