APPARATUS FOR TIGHTENING THREADED FASTENERS

This application discloses an apparatus 100 for use with an electrically, hydraulically and/or pneumatically driven torque tool for tightening or loosening inaccessible threaded fasteners including a drive extension assembly 110, a reaction assembly 120 and a socket assembly 130. Advantageously the present invention uses an external reaction member which holds on to two (2) or four (4) adjacent studs while turning a fastener with an extended drive ball and socket joint connection. It more efficiently distributes/reduces the side loads and system strains from the reaction forces on the bolts by bringing the reaction point much closer to the fastener being turned. It allows for a plurality of fastener approach angles and is adaptable to a plurality of fastener obstructions. It's relatively lightweight, easy to maneuver from fastener to fastener and overall user friendly.

APPARATUS FOR TIGHTENING THREADED FASTENERS

This Application seeks to protect Applicant's HYTORC® Z® System which involves: tools having multi-speed/multi-torque modes with torque multiplication and vibration mechanisms without use of external reaction abutments; a force transfer means to yield in-line co-axial action and reaction for use with such tools; driving means and shifting means capable of attaching to washers under the nut for use with such tools and force transfer means; associated washers and fasteners for use with such tools, force transfer means and driving means; and related accessories for use with such tools, force transfer means, driving means, washers and fasteners.

The HYTORC® Z® System includes the following: Z® Washers located under nuts or bolt heads of various types having engageable perimeters of multiple shapes, sizes, geometries and serrations, such as washer/fastener radius engagement differentials, and frictionally biased faces with relatively higher friction against the flange surface and relatively lower friction against the nut, such as friction coefficient increasing treatment means of various types, sizes and locations; HYTORC Z® Guns incorporating a powerful impact mechanism and a precise torque multiplier in the same tool combining rapid run-down with calibrated torque; HYTORC® Z® Sockets with dual drive coaxial action and reaction having outer sleeves to react on Z® Washers and an inner sleeves to turn nuts or bolt heads; HYTORC® Z® Spline Adapters and Reaction Plates for backwards compatibility with HYTORC®'s torque/tension systems including the AVANTI® and ICE® square drive systems, the STEALTH® limited clearance system, the pneumatic jGUN® series, the FLASH® Gun and LITHIUM Series electric multipliers and more; the combination of HYTORC® Z® Washer and the HYTORC® Z® Dual Friction Washer™ including a dual friction-enhanced face washer and/or the HYTORC® Z® Nut/Bolt for counter-torque under a nut or bolt head on the other side of the joint; HYTORC® Z® Dual Drive Offset Links for tight clearances while using HYTORC®'s torque/tension systems; HYTORC® Z® Vibration Mechanisms applied thereof; Z®-Squirter® Washers; HYTORC® Z® Washer and Nut Assemblies; and any combinations thereof. Further disclosures include: Tapered Fastener Assemblies; Tapered Torsional Couplings; Two-Part Tapered Nut Assemblies; and Two-Part Tapered Thread Nut Assemblies.

PORTABLE CALIBRATION SYSTEM

A portable shippable automated calibration system for high torque power tools is disclosed. The system includes a self-contained highly durable and shippable container that may comprise a power source, central processor, visual user interface, mechanical interface for coupling with power tools to be calibrated, communications systems for communicating with a power tool being calibrated and/or with on-site or cloud based data systems. The system may be delivered to sites desiring on-site power tool calibration, tools are calibrated and updated calibration factors are automatically uploaded into the calibrated tool and a calibration certificate is published with the particulars of the calibration completion.

HIGH TORQUE TOOL

An apparatus for precisely measuring and applying torque and angle of rotation to tighten screwed fasteners. The apparatus includes a drive motor for generating a rotation, a pair of spaced triggers for activating the operation of the drive motor, and a controller for precisely measuring the torque to be applied and angle of rotation to be achieved by the apparatus, the controller not permitting the motor to be activated without both of the triggers being activated. A reduction gear system is also provided for reducing a rate of rotation generated by the motor, the reduction gear system outputting a rotational drive torque for driving the screwed fastener.

A torque transfer device is provided to transfer torque from a torque tool to a torque limiter device, the torque transfer device comprising a torque limiter connection member adapted for connection to the torque limiter device; a first joint; a second joint; and a tool connection member adapted for connection to the torque tool, wherein the first joint and the second joint are configured to lock responsive to activation of the torque tool to transfer a reaction torque generated by the torque tool to the torque limiter device, and wherein the first joint and the second joint are configured to unlock responsive to deactivation of the torque tool to enable rotation between the torque tool and the torque limiter device along a first axis and a second axis different from the first axis.

A power screwdriver has a gear housing with forwardly extending output shaft and a peripheral external spline with teeth lying on a first diameter. The gear housing has a peripheral groove with groove bottom arranged rearward of the external spline. The groove bottom lies on a second diameter smaller than the first diameter. The support bracket has a fastening portion with an annular fastening flange with internal spline and a support foot arranged laterally offset from the output shaft and placed against an external counter bearing for diverting reaction torques. Internal and external splines cooperate to rotationally fix the support bracket relative to the gear housing. A locking element on the fastening flange can assume a blocking setting or a release setting. In the blocking setting, the locking element extends partially or completely into the groove and locks the support bracket to the gear housing in longitudinal direction.
