IMPACT MECHANISM WITH MULTI-MATERIAL STRIKER
An impact mechanism for use in a power tool having a motor and adapted to impart axial impacts to a tool bit. The impact mechanism includes a piston configured to reciprocate in response to receiving torque from the motor, a striker that is selectively reciprocable within the spindle in response to reciprocation of the piston, and an anvil that is impacted by the striker when the striker reciprocates towards the tool bit. The anvil imparts axial impacts to the tool bit. The striker includes a body portion formed of a first material and an insert portion within the body portion. The insert portion is formed of a second material that is more dense than the first material.

Rotary impact tool
A secondary hammer support structure in a rotary impact tool is structured such that a plurality of steel balls are disposed between a secondary hammer and a retaining member. The plurality of steel balls are arranged between the first retaining groove of the secondary hammer and the second retaining groove of the retaining member. The retaining member is formed as a member separate from the spindle and has a retaining surface for retaining steel balls and a mounting surface mounted to the spindle so as not be rotatable. The mounting surface of the retaining member is mounted to a front member of a carrier.

Impact tool
An impact tool includes a housing, an electric motor supported in the housing, and a drive assembly for converting a continuous torque input from the motor to consecutive rotational impacts upon a workpiece capable of developing at least 1,700 ft-lbs of fastening torque. The drive assembly includes an anvil rotatable about an axis and having a head adjacent a distal end of the anvil. The head has a minimum cross-sectional width of at least 1 inch in a plane oriented transverse to the axis. The drive assembly also includes a hammer that is both rotationally and axially movable relative to the anvil for imparting the consecutive rotational impacts upon the anvil, and a spring for biasing the hammer in an axial direction toward the anvil.

TWO-PIECE HAMMER FOR IMPACT TOOL
An impact tool and a hammer. The impact tool includes a housing, a motor supported within the housing, an anvil extending from the housing, and a drive assembly configured to convert a continuous rotational input from the motor to intermittent applications of torque to the anvil. The drive assembly includes a camshaft driven by the motor and a hammer configured to reciprocate along the camshaft. The hammer includes a core coupled to the camshaft and a sleeve coupled to the core.
