A remotely operated vehicle for moving on a rail system includes a first set of wheels, a second set of wheels, a wheel displacement assembly, and a wheel drive assembly. The rail system includes a first set of parallel rails and a second set of parallel rails arranged perpendicular to the first set of rails. The first set of wheels includes a first pair of wheels and a second pair of wheels, the first and second pairs of wheels arranged on opposite sides of a vehicle frame, allowing movement of the vehicle along a first direction on the rail system during use. The second set of wheels includes a third pair of wheels and a fourth pair of wheels, the third and fourth pairs of wheels arranged on opposite sides of the vehicle frame, allowing movement of the vehicle along a second direction on the rail system during use. The second direction is perpendicular to the first direction. The wheel displacement assembly is mounted to the vehicle frame and arranged to move the second set of wheels in a vertical direction relative to the vehicle frame between a first position. The first set of wheels allows movement of the vehicle along the first direction, and a second position. The second set of wheels allows movement of the vehicle along the second direction. The wheel drive assembly includes a first motor, a drive band, and a band drive wheel. The first motor is operatively connected to rotate the band drive wheel. The drive band interconnects the band drive wheel and the third pair of wheels. The third pair of wheels and the first motor are mounted to a cross-plate which extends horizontally and is arranged to move vertically as part of the wheel displacement assembly. The third pair of wheels and the band drive wheel are attached to the cross-plate such that the cross-plate supports the third pair of wheels and the band drive wheel are in a fixed spatial configuration where each wheel of the third pair of wheels is located at an end portion of the cross-plate and the band drive wheel is positioned at a central portion of the cross-plate.

A plurality of wiring harness assembly stations is located about the automation zone, each including one or more wiring harness assembly boards holding the wiring harnesses. Manual operator zones are located outside the automation zone that are associated with the wiring harness assembly stations. The wiring harness assembly stations are reconfigurable between a first configuration in which a first wiring harness assembly board faces the manual operator zone such that it is accessible to a manual operator, and a second configuration in which it faces the automation zone such that it is accessible to the robot. The robot is moved within the automation zone between a plurality of assembly locations where it accesses and operates on the respectively the plurality of wiring harness assembly stations.

A plurality of drive units each movably engages the rail system such that each of the drive units can travel along the rail system. A plurality of robotic arms is each integrated into a respective one of the drive units having each of the robotic arms extending downwardly from the rail system. Each of the robotic arms is actuatable to manipulate any of the data storage units thereby facilitating hardware in any of the data storage units to be serviced or replaced by the robotic arms.

A rail system is integrated into the datacenter and the rail system is positioned adjacent to the ceiling such that the rail system is spaced above the plurality of data storage units. An operational command unit is positioned in the datacenter and the operational command unit stores a database which includes robotic operational software. A plurality of drive units each movably engages the rail system such that each of the drive units can travel along the rail system. A plurality of robotic arms is each integrated into a respective one of the drive units having each of the robotic arms extending downwardly from the rail system. Each of the robotic arms is actuatable to manipulate any of the data storage units thereby facilitating hardware in any of the data storage units to be serviced or replaced by the robotic arms.

Vehicle body assembly station

The vehicle body assembly station comprises main transport assembly for conveying a vehicle body along a first direction D1 in which at least one assembly robot is provided to move along a second direction D2, and temporary transport assembly whose operation is more accurate than that of the main transport assembly for moving the vehicle body independently from the main transport assembly while the assembly robot is performing operations on the vehicle body, whereby a new coordinate reference system is created by the temporary transport assembly.

Vehicle body assembly station

The vehicle body assembly station comprises main transport assembly for conveying a vehicle body along a first direction D1 in which at least one assembly robot is provided to move along a second direction D2, and temporary transport assembly whose operation is more accurate than that of the main transport assembly for moving the vehicle body independently from the main transport assembly while the assembly robot is performing operations on the vehicle body, whereby a new coordinate reference system is created by the temporary transport assembly.
