A band saw machine is adapted for cutting a lumber, and. includes frame body unit, a transport unit, a hold-down unit, a cutting unit and a drive unit. The transport unit includes an endless conveyor belt extending in a front-rear direction through the frame body unit for transporting the lumber. The hold-down unit includes an endless hold-down belt extending in the front-rear direction through the frame body unit. The endless conveyor belt and the endless hold-down belt are driven by the drive unit to rotate synchronously to carry the lumber to be cut by the cutting unit.

A band saw machine is adapted for cutting a lumber, and includes a frame body unit, a transport unit, a cutting unit, a cleaning unit and a guide unit. The frame body unit includes a base plate and a hood body extending rearward from the base plate and cooperating with a conveyor belt of the transport unit to define an output passage. The cutting unit is adapted to cut the lumber into an upper piece and a lower piece. The guide unit includes two guide rollers mounted to the hood body, extending into the outlet passage, and adapted to separate the upper piece from the lower piece. The cleaning unit includes an air lance for directing an air stream to the conveyor belt.

A sawmill and a kit for forming the sawmill has a support assembly, a sawhead, a log bed and a carriage. The support assembly retains a motor relative to a drive bandwheel and a free bandwheel in a sawmill. The support assembly has a first platform orientated on a first plane, where the first platform securable to an axle of the drive bandwheel. The support assembly has a second platform orientated on a second plane, where the second platform securable to an axle of the free bandwheel. The support assembly also has a centre platform coupled to, and between, the first and second platforms, where the centre platform is orientated on a third plane that is vertically spaced apart from the first and second planes. The centre platform is configured to support the motor above the axles of the drive bandwheel and the free bandwheel.

A sawmill and a kit for forming the sawmill has a support assembly, a sawhead, a log bed and a carriage. The support assembly retains a motor relative to a drive bandwheel and a free bandwheel in a sawmill. The support assembly has a first platform orientated on a first plane, where the first platform securable to an axle of the drive bandwheel. The support assembly has a second platform orientated on a second plane, where the second platform securable to an axle of the free bandwheel. The support assembly also has a centre platform coupled to, and between, the first and second platforms, where the centre platform is orientated on a third plane that is vertically spaced apart from the first and second planes. The centre platform is configured to support the motor above the axles of the drive bandwheel and the free bandwheel.

An apparatus for mounting logs for processing on a sawmill having a log bed defining a log bed plane includes a first plate, a stationary jaw, and movable jaw. The first plate is configured to be fixedly mountable on a log bed of a sawmill, and configured to support a log to be cross-cut. The stationary jaw is fixedly supported on the plate. The movable jaw is supported on the plate, and is configured to move at least in part in a direction parallel to the log bed plane when the first plate is mounted on the log bed. The movable jaw and the stationary jaw are collectively configured to fixedly clamp a log on the first plate in a clamp interior such that a grain direction of the log is normal to the log bed plane.

A method for constructing a lower section of a sawmill carriage assembly comprises holding structural components between a pair of metal plates, and affixing the plates and the structural components together. The structural components may include wheels that guide the sawhead in linear movement along a track on a sawmill bed, to which the carriage base is attached. The structural components may also include a track cleaning system disposed between the metal plates. The track cleaning system maintains optimal track conditions.

A sawmill carriage includes a frame having a handle, translation structures connected to the frame towards lateral sides thereof, a sawmill head, and a pair of transportation wheels rotatably connected to the frame towards a longitudinal end thereof. The translation structures are mountable on rails of a log support structure that can support a log. The rails extend in a longitudinal direction and enable travel of the sawmill carriage in the longitudinal direction when the sawmill carriage is mounted thereon. The sawmill head has a saw blade, a portion of which is positionable to cut the log positioned on the log support structure when the sawmill carriage is mounted on the rails, and the sawmill carriage travels in the longitudinal direction. The handle is positioned to enable tilting and/or transportation of the sawmill carriage. A kit and method of using the sawmill carriage are also provided.

A sawmill assembly includes a bed and a carriage. The bed has a pair of substantially parallel rails, and the carriage is movably supported along the rails. The bed includes an extension bed member pivotably attached to a main bed member with a combination bunk/hinge to allow an operator to fold the bed between an extended in use position and a stowed position for transporting the sawmill assembly to or from a work site with a tow vehicle.

A sawmill assembly includes a bed and a carriage. The bed has a pair of substantially parallel rails, and the carriage is movably supported along the rails. A sawmill assembly comprising a bed, a carriage and a tilting device. The bed has a pair of substantially parallel rails that define a first plane, a first axis perpendicular to the first plane, and a second plane perpendicular to both the first plane and a longitudinal axis of the rails. The carriage is movably supported along the rails. The tilting device allows a user to adjust a tilt angle of the carriage in the second plane, relative to the first axis. Also disclosed are methods of adjusting a blade angle of the sawmill assembly, and methods of cutting a tapered piece from a workpiece material.
