The invention relates to powered cutting apparatus which includes a cutting unit mounted on one or more slide members and provided to perform a cutting action on a workpiece mounted on a base to which the one or more slide members are attacked by support legs. The apparatus includes at least one fence with a contact surface for the workpiece and the fence can be selectively positioned on any of a plurality of guide means provided on the base to aid in the performance of the cutting action.

A miter saw includes a base, a worktable pivotally mounted to the base, a fence mounted at the worktable, an operating handle connected to the worktable, and two opposing supporting units respectively mounted to two opposite sides of the base.
